Then and Now
Jiraiya's at his favorite bar/whorehouse in Sand when he first hears the gossip about the "Young Sannin." By the time they get around to detailing how the new Toad is even more perverted than the old(er Jiraiya mentally adds) one, with his harem of nubile young blonds and his questionable relationship with the Godaime (which one? somebody asks, both! somebody else answers), Jiraiya's fallen off his stool laughing. Sure, he's the one who started these rumors and maybe three years is a long wait for a punchline, but that doesn't make it any less funny.
Jiraiya's been twisting the future, ever since he first met the brat, and now he's got the whole world believing. Jiraiya's got a feel for stories, you see, and he hijacked this one a long time back. He owes Minato, and besides, it's funny as hell watching Tsunade, of all people, teach Sakura. It'll be more obvious, in a decade or two, just whose counterpart Sakura really is.
The members of Team Seven really are like the Sanin, Jiraiya knows, because a team of two isn't a team at all. It takes a special kind of coddled brat to break up a team, and Jiraiya knows better than most what that's like. He's glad Tsunade never met Sasuke because Tsunade, like most old ninja, can't stand herself. And Sasuke, like Tsunade, was the first to leave.
Jiraiya doesn't think he blames Tsunade, but he's sure Orochimaru does.
A/N: I love drawing connections where there are none! I'm not sure I made things clear enough. Might rewrite it (probably not).
