"Mom, we'll be fine," Julie Teeger reassured her mom, Natalie, as she got ready to leave. "I have done this before. I know how to handle Mr. Monk and the other guys at the station. They won't let anything happen to me or Mr. Monk."
"Alright, but if you need anything..." Natalie trailed off.
" I get it, mom. Go or you'll be late for your flight."
Natalie nodded and allowed herself to be pushed out the door. "Call Lt. Disher to give you a lift," she called before getting in the cab.
Julie nodded and waved as the cab drove away. She sighed and called Lt. Randy Disher to pick her up. As she waited for him, she thought, 'Maybe nothing bad is going to happen while mom is visiting Cousin Jen. At least, I hope nothing bad is going to happen.'
A car horn knocked her out of her thoughts and she got ready to head to the station, Mr. Monk having already been given a lift by a black-and-white.
"Julie, ready to go?" Randy hollered from out of the window.
"Yeah. Just give me a minute to lock up."
Julie did said chore and climbed in. As the car pulled away from the curb, she thought that she saw movement in the bushes, but chalked it up as her imagination.
Randy and Julie arrived in the bullpen in time to see Captain Leland Stottlemeyer and Adrian Monk looking at one of the open case files. Julie rushed over to stand by Adrian, just as she'd seen her mother do, and looked over his shoulder.
"Is that one of your open files?" Julie asked.
"Closed you mean," Capt. Stottlemeyer replied, closing the folder. "Let's go down to the scene of that burglary and get our suspect.
As the Captain and Randy led the way, Julie thought the Captain seemed a little tense about something. She pointed it out to Adrian, who replied, "Yeah, I noticed that too, but I highly doubt that he forgot to vacuum the closet."
Julie gave him a look that seemed to say, 'well, what does this have to do with anything?'
Adrian shrugged and said, "I would be tense if I forgot to vacuum my closet. Who knows what kind of things sneak in there when you aren't looking. No, I think that something else is going on."
And we all know that when Adrian Monk says that he thinks something, that something is usually right.
How was it? Drop a line if you want this to keep going.
