Chapter 1

Hoenn ho! Venture Forth, Alfred!

Another calm, serene day in the Hoenn region, the perfect day for anyone; Alfred Jones, who had woken up mere minutes ago, was enjoying an apple while walking down a road laden with greenery on his way to the famed Pokémon research center. His usual upbeat personality seemed to emanate from his very soul; his demeanor, the same as usual.

"Can't believe it… my first official Pokémon! With it on my side, I'll beat the Elites and be the best trainer ever!" rowdy and rushed, he couldn't decide on the one starter he wanted the most. But that didn't stop Alfred. He picked up his pace, running by a mere second, to get to the lab, where his adventure would begin.

"Professor? You there?" The front gates to the lab were ominously locked, leaving Alfred in a state of confusion. "The professor always keeps his gates open… Professor, you there!? Or are you slacking off?" he yelled as loud as he could, until his conclusion: his acts were futile. Flustered and impatient, he decided to no option but to climb the fence. He looked at it, scrutinizing the height.

"Looks… eight feet… okay, I'm climbing up!" he gripped onto the iron bars and started to climb up. A passerby stared at him with a crazed expression; wouldn't this be considered trespassing private property?

"A-Alfred, no need to climb the f-" a slight tug of Alfred's red jacket from the stranger seemed to cause him to climb faster, until Alfred took a leap and landed on the other side of the fence, falling right into a pile of old newspaper.

"YES! Sorry stranger, but I gotta hurry!" Screaming joyously, he rushed towards the door of the lab, unaware that the stranger was simply his childhood friend.

"O-oh d-dear… forgotten yet again…"

The lab was completely dark, as if no one entered the lab for weeks. "Professor! I've come for my Pokémon!" the words echoed through the halls, leaving the slightest hint of danger. Alfred turned the lights on, to get a view of the lab. Bookcases fallen on the floor, books scattered, and pots destroyed; it was obvious that there was a problem.

"Whoa… professor, what happened!? Was it a Pokémon!?" he waited for three minutes, but then began to wander around the lab. It wasn't until he entered the botanical garden, in which he heard a distressing sound. Screams, screams from the faculty of the lab.

Alfred rushed to the far end of the garden, ducking and pushing through an endless array of tropical flora. He brushed past palm trees, until he pushed the giant leaves to come face-to-face with the current situation; a Kingler had gotten mad at the scientist. "Professor! What happened!?" he yelled, keeping his distance as the giant crustacean moved closer to the scientists.

"We suspect that it is acting territorial!" The professor yelped. "Just try to find a way to distract it! My Pokémon fainted, and my bag's gone, so please, help!"

Panting, Alfred grabbed the only object he thought would stop a giant crustacean: a rock. Not a small pebble, but rather a small rock of unbearable weight to the arms of a regular human; yet, he seemed unfazed, perhaps a bit too laid-back. He took aim, locking onto the pincer of the crab. Just as he threw it with a mighty heave, an onslaught of missile-like seeds attacked the rock and Kingler.

Shocked by the turn of events, the Kingler aimed a Bubblebeam towards the trees. Shifting, a small, gecko-like Pokémon emerged from the trees.

"Treecko?" the professor seemed confused, as if the sight of the very Pokémon made him worried and confused.

"Sweet, starter Pokémon are coming outta the blue! Hey Treecko, wanna help me defeat this Kingler, be the hero?" Alfred asked, extending his hand. The gecko turned away, aiming another round of Bullet Seeds. It seemed determined to finish the job: alone.

"I guess that's a yes! Alrighty then, let's use Absorb!"he yelled, only to be caught up in a mess of seeds and bubbles. The gecko's attack kept on missing, much to its dismay, as it braced for the impact of a Crabhammer. "Does that Treecko ever listen to you!?" Alfred yelled, ducking his head and running in circles.

"No! It seems highly antisocial and rather the lone wolf! It doesn't like to ta-"

"Oh, so it just wants to be the hero?"

"Well, yes and n-"

"Close enough! I think I know what to do!" he kept cutting the professor's sentences short, believing that the answer was clear to him.

He bravely turned to face the rampaging duo of nature and water; with a deep breath, Alfred began to scream. "So you wanna be the hero, huh Treecko!? Is that right!?" his voice boomed louder than cannons, causing the once rowdy scene to completely halt.

The Treecko glared angrily at the crab, nodding in acceptance.

"Well, all heroes gotta work with partners, right? How do you say we join up for this?"

The Treecko looked at Alfred, then at the Kingler, finally nodding. The Kingler launched another Bubblebeam towards Treecko, who swiftly dodged the path.

"I'm glad we're on the same page! Okay then, let's start off by AIMING a Bullet Seed!" he aimed directly at the crab's mouth, to which Treecko obeyed. Kingler braced for impact. "Now for a pounding while it's fazed!" Treecko obeyed, slamming its tail towards the giant pincer of the crab. Kingler stumbled back, beginning to charge up another Bubblebeam. "Last move, one last Bullet Seed!" Treecko did as told, knocking out the Kingler.

"Great job, hero!" Alfred cheered, causing the Treecko to laugh.

"Well, thank you… I guess… I… suppose you came here for your f-"

"I choose this Treecko! Together, we're bound to be the best, right Treecko?" Alfred gave a hearty laugh, to which Treecko complimented with a smile. This path is truly bound for adventure!
