It was a Saturday in May, and it was the first time the temperature went to 80. Mary was taking full advantage of this; she wore an old t-shirt, shorts, and flip flops.

There was a knock on her door. "Come, in, it's open," she said.

It was Rhoda. "Hi, kiddo," she said.

"Hi, Rho."

"I see you're all dolled-up!"

She smiled. "I'm about to wash my car. It's the first warm Saturday, and I need to get the winter gunk off of it."

"Oh. I was going to invite you to go shopping with me."

"That would've been nice."

"I've got an idea: My car also needs washing. Let's do them together."

"Good idea, Rhoda."

"Let me 'slip into something more comfortable,' first."

"OK."

She went back to her apartment and changed into a similar t-shirt/shorts outfit. Then they gathered together various things-buckets, cleaning fluid, towels, etc-and went outside.

Their house had a large driveway. The moved their cars close together, on it. Then they turned on a long hose that was nearby, and the started their work.

First, they did Rhoda's car, then Mary's. They poured soapy water on them, washed them, got the gunk out of the cracks, and rinsed the water off.

About midway through, they kicked their sandals off.

"The soapy water feels kinda nice between my toes!," commented Rhoda.

Mary smiled. "Yes. Maybe we can wash our feet, too!" They both giggled.

Towards the end, Rhoda became frisky; she flicked water from her bucket at Mary. Mary smiled and flicked water back at her. They did this for a bit. Suddenly, Rhoda walked over to Mary and poured her bucket of water all over her!

"I'm sorry, Mare. I didn't mean to do that."

"It's OK. Stand right there, a moment.

She did this. Mary walked over and poured her water bucket over her!

By now, both girls were soaked! Giggling, they continued their water fight. They picked up the hose and took turns spraying each other. Then they poured more water into the buckets and flunk them at each other!

Meanwhile, a man parked his car and got out. Seeing the girls, he walked over to them.

Mary flung water at Rhoda. However, most of it missed her and landed on him!

"Mr. Grant!," she said in shock.

"I was in the neighborhood, so I thought I'd drop by. I didn't expect a shower!

"Oh, I'm so sorry!"

"Yeah, we were washing our cars, and we got a little silly!," said Rhoda. "I'm really sorry, Lou."

Smiling boyishly, he picked up the hose and sprayed it on the two of them!

"Now, we're even!," he said.

They all laughed!

They finished rinsing the cars off, and took the stuff back in the house. The girls put on dry clothes while Lou watched a baseball game. He ended up having dinner with them.
