A/N: I CANNOT believe the ending of RESCUE SPECIAL OPS… on second thoughts, maybe I can. Why is it that every good TV show gets axed and leaves the viewers hanging on. They want us to invest in the show, and we do, only to have our hopes stomped on when they don't wrap it up. It's one of my biggest pet peeves, that and going to the toilet (I swear that creation could have been done in a much less disgusting way). If I ever had my own TV show, I would make sure that my viewers would have a WRAP UP episode to tie all knots.
Anyways, this is taken from the end of the SERIES finale. It's just a little ADD ON from how it ended. :-) ENJOY!
"Turn around, come on… come on, turn around," Dean whispered in the dark entry way of the RESCUE station. He held his breath, waiting for Lara to make the next move. If she turned around, then he would have his answer and the answer would be obvious. If on the other hand, she kept walking, then it would be clear to him that she hadn't invested her heart in him or even in their partnership the way that he had.
Please, he begged silently. His heart was thumping a mile a minute. His heart was on the line, his future, the life that he wanted with her. He wanted this so much, and he knew how foolish he had been waiting and watching and never saying anything. What was the point of waiting, he realized, because at least if she didn't turn around, he wouldn't walk away with the regret of what if… he would know and that would be easier to live with than the not knowing.
He let out a breath as she slowly turned around. Dean smiled, knowing good and well that she was the one for him. The great love of his life.
The smile on Lara's face and the tears that silently welled up in her eyes, were evident of her own feelings for him. Why had he waited so long? He couldn't remember now what had held him back from speaking the truth.
Dean took a step forward.
Lara mimicked his action.
Dean took another forward step, and Lara followed.
They did this until they were standing less than a feet away from each other. Dean reached out his hand and slipped it around her waist, drawing her against him. He heard her draw in a breath and his heart started thumping, pressed against his own, a rhythm taking form of the same beat, timed perfectly in sync.
"I love you," he said.
Lara rested her hand on his upper torso. "I have been waiting so long for you to say that," she told him.
"Sorry," he shrugged.
"Dean, I…" she looked like she was struggling to say it.
"You don't have to," he said gently.
"I do. I have to say it because…" she took a deep breath. Her vulnerability was sexy as hell. "I love you, Dean. I love you so much. I didn't mean to run, I just- I couldn't believe my luck. I didn't know if I… I can't get hurt again. I can't lose you. Do you understand what I'm saying?"
"I understand." He knew what she meant, he knew exactly what she meant. If he lost her, he wasn't sure that he'd ever survive.
"Okay," she nodded. "Then kiss me because I've been waiting forever."
Dean was happy to oblige, and when his lips brushed against hers, the wall he had built around him crumbled down around him, leaving him as vulnerable as she was. He pulled her closer and kissed her with every ounce of willpower he had left and he felt the same passion ignite in her response.
If this was love, then he'd take it every day of the week.
Very sappy. I know. I just HAD to have a kiss. I can't help it. I'm a sucker for a happy ending. =-/
