The yells had subsided and another competition between the two partners had ensued in the usual interrogation fashion. The only difference was that, even to his shock, Lassiter wanted her to win. Not that winning had lost it's appeal, no; it was the compulsion to see the big grin on her face after she had triumphed. That smile stopped his usual foul mood in its tracks and gave him a feeling that he had never felt before. Maybe, Spencer was right to pick this girl as his chosen target… and maybe a pig was going to fly right by the window he was standing next to. Not because she wasn't beautiful but Spencer wasn't right for…

"Stop it, Lassiter! This is no time for sentimentality!" He kept running through his mind in a voice that sounded oddly like his mother's. "Sunshine Sally will not ruin all I've taught you!" Yes, definitely mother. He couldn't control the urge to be especially nice to her, it was as if she was controlling his every emotion just by walking into the room. He checked the interrogation room where Juliet still was and found himself lost. He knew she would beat his horrible time of thirty minutes and fourteen seconds and then the smile would come. All time stopped around him. She was looking his way and grinning a heart-stopping grin that could melt any cold disposition…even his. He panicked thinking of all the possible ways he could respond, but settled for a very awkward, and very out of use toothy grin. Juliet giggled and went back to her interrogation.

"Stupid!" He told himself situating himself toward the clock again. Thirty minutes and fifteen seconds, Damn.
