The girls skipped lightly on the road that dark night on Halloween. Not a care in the world but that of receiving a bagful of candy. Just then, a black cat skittered across the street.
"My flashlight won't turn on," sighed Hermione at their luck. "I just put new batteries in too.."
"Oh my God yay!" cried Luna in an excited yip, "another black cat just crossed our path!" She ducked aside to try and find the cat as it ran off into the bushes.
"Wait up!" called Lavender.
The three girls went behind the bush trying to locate the cat. Just then they heard a galloping horse nearly a block away.
"What would a horse be doing here?" questioned Hermione.
"Maaaybe it's the Headless Horseman. Oooooo!" Luna teased, wiggling her fingers in a spooky imitation.
"Don't be ridiculous, there's not such thing." Hermione said skeptically.
Then out of the dusk of the night mist curled around the corner, and from the mist who rode into the moonlit street, but the Headless Horseman himself. It was no trick of the eye, no dedicated costumed Halloween trick or treater. For the demon that rode wore his demonic aura around him like a dark cape. A glowing Jack-O-Lantern in one hand and a glowing sword in the other, he rode up close to where the girls were hiding.
"Oh my God what are we going to do?" Lavender whispered in exasperation.
"We should totally say hi," Said Luna in total honesty.
"Are you insane?!" Asked Hermione. "This is the Headless Horseman we are talking about! He would cut your head off soon as he saw you!"
But before they could stop her, Luna stepped out of the bushes into the clearing and a little off to the side of where the Headless Horseman was heading. He started to bring his sword, but before he could make a swipe Luna said:
"Happy Halloween Eachuin Maclean! It is an honor to finally meet my hero of Halloween," She smiled and stepped back a little ways as the Horseman stopped by where she stood. He put away his sword and waved his hand in greeting.
"How has your night been?" Luna questioned.
The Horseman shrugged. He then pointed to Luna then to himself and raised his hands in confusion.
"Oh. I knew your name because I looked it up on the internet. Shouldn't you be in New York though? And how is it your actually here, I mean like HERE?" Luna looked up and gestured to the living world.
The Horseman raised his hand and made a "one" with his finger. Then he made a few gestures, one looked like he was lighting a candle another like he was reading a book. He made a sign as a witches hat and then a poof movement with his hands. Then he pointed to Luna to explain.
"He said that uhm he was summoned by a witch who lives in this area. Something about candles and an old book," Luna smiled.
"Wow you understood all that from all those hand motions?" Hermione asked making movements in the air.
"Yeah..he said he 'poofed' into existence," Said Luna waving her hands mimicking. "I think he wants us to find a way to send him back. What you don't want to stay?" Luna said after another series of frantic gestures from the Horseman.
"Nope. He says he's not meant for this world and the afterlife isn't that bad anyways. He's apparently a big shot over there. Ok but before we help you can you come back to Hermione's house so I can get your autograph?"
The Horseman made a few confused and surprised gestures and followed the girls back up the road.
