Disclaimer: I own nothing.
This drabble had originally been coupled with a graphic that I had posted to tumblr, but after a few people suggested it, I've decided to post it to . I'm not particularly fond of it, but there is so little Salazar/Rowena fic out there, that I thought it couldn't hurt. For those of your who've stuck with me on The Beast You've Made of Me: I promise you that I'm working on the next chapter now and I apologise for not posting it sooner. Thanks everyone!
"Please. Don't go."
The words had flown her mouth before she could stop them. Heaving a sigh, he turned to face her.
"You know I cannot stay, Rowena. There is nothing here for me anymore."
"Of course there is, Salazar!" Rowena reasoned. "Godric will come around; you simply must give him time!"
"Godric will never come around, Rowena," he deplored, securing his cloak around his shoulders. "Nary anything I have besought of him has been answered. He is incorrigible, you simply cannot reason with him. You of all people must know this."
Once he had properly donned his cloak, Salazar turned and continued down the corridor, the dark-haired woman hot on his heels.
"But what of the children?" she pleaded. "They cannot flourish without you! They need you!" I need you.
"They will get along just fine without me. I am confident that Godric will find a capable replacement."
She knew that she was losing him, and she did not have much time before he reached the gates of the castle.
"Salazar, please!" she begged, struggling to meet his pace. "We need you! I need you!"
Salazar stopped suddenly, his grey eyes boring into hers. Rowena opened her mouth to speak again, to attempt to say something to change his mind, but then his mouth came crashing down on hers and she was lost in his touch.
After what seemed like ages, he finally spoke.
"Come with me."
"What?" she whispered.
"Come with me," he repeated, holding her closer. "I know that you cannot bear for us to be parted and I cannot bear to make this journey alone."
"Salazar…"
"Please, Rowena."
"You- you know I cannot." she choked, her tears released from their floodgates. "I cannot leave Helga and I cannot leave this school. I love you, Salazar, but… I cannot."
"So you choose him, then," Salazar spat, drawing back from her as though he had been burned.
"No, Salazar." Rowena implored, grasping for him once more. "I will always choose you. But my duty to this school is one that I cannot simply throw away. You must know this, for you made the same promise as I."
"That was long before he started allowing filth to litter our grounds!" Salazar yelled, brushing her off as though she were nothing. "If you choose to stay here, then I am afraid we will never speak again." He composed himself. "The choice is yours, Lady Ravenclaw."
"Salazar, you know I cannot-"
"Then so be it."
He kissed her then, briefly, yet forcefully and she reveled in his touch. She leaned into him, hoping that her actions would somehow change his mind, but he simply breathed a soft 'goodbye' against her lips.
"Wait!" she called, grasping for him.
But he was gone.
Eh heh heh...
