Strange things happen when one of your senses is cut off. Even strange was the entire experience, to have that sense one second, to get attacked by a shadow, and suddenly not be able to feel, hear, smell, see, or speak.
Kagura and Tokacchi were holding up alright, the most sense-able after the attack, with only their touch and smell affected. Kagura moved a bit strangely, like she was distant from her own body, not being able to feel her limbs move or realize when she moved them. Tokacchi acted a bit strange, too, moving his mouth much like a horse in hopes of tasting again.
Mio stayed behind in the train; she wasn't going to be much use when she couldn't hear the answers to her own questions. Hikari would've stayed with her – he couldn't even ask questions – but Right – blind as a mole – decided to roam freely about the town. Somebody had to watch over him.
"Ah...the air is really nice here. And the sun feels so bright." Right, in his usual way, was happily enjoying being outside. Hikari rolled his eyes; leave it to Right to be no different when he couldn't see a meter in front of him.
Right turned around, tripping over a bench. Hikari immediately dove to help him, pulling him up to sit him on the offending bench. The words he wanted to scold him with, if only he had the voice to do it. Instead, he knocked Right's forehead with a knuckle.
It's out there somewhere
It's all waiting
If you keep believeing
So don't run,
Don't hide
It'll be alright
You'll see
Trust me
I'll be there
Watching over you
"I know what you're thinking, Hikari." Right chuckled. "I probably shouldn't be going around when I can't even see where I'm going, yeah?"
To say the least.
"But I can see.
Hikari's jaw dropped, the happy smile on Right's face. Could Right actually see? Was he immune to the Shadow's magic?
Just take a look through my eyes.
There's a better place out there.
Just take a look through my eyes.
Everything changes.
You'll be amazed what you'll find,
If you take a look through my eyes.
Right was moving closer to him and suddenly, Hikari had his own eyes covered (albeit a bit clumsily) "Right..." He said, though no sound came out.
"Imagine it..." Right said.
Imagine...Imagine what?
"Imagine the city...how it looks. Imagine the people, walking around. Imagine kids going to school, parents shopping, couples on dates."
And...he could. Hikari could see it, a town shining in light where people went about their days without a care in the world. He imagined a town filled with a child's laughter and couples walking down the street, so very deeply in love.
He furrowed his brows as darkness overwhelmed the fantasy. Shadows and Crows filled the city, poking and tearing down the townspeople in terror.
There will be times
On this journey
All you'll see is darkness
But out there someone
Daylight finds you
If you keep believing
Right felt the wrinkles and Hikari felt him move closer. "Imagine us, protecting the town where we fight to keep them all safe."
Hikari tried to return that light to the town. He raised his Tunnel Ax and striked down the crows, but more kept coming. In the distance, the child's laugh turned to a screeching cry for help. Help he couldn't give.
"Together."
The darkness vanished, just with that one word in his ear. The crows were vanquished and the Shadow was nowhere to be found.
In the sunlight, Right stood, smiling at him.
In the Real World, Hikari pulled Right's hand down and stared at him, How strange to see Right smiling at him and knowing the other couldn't see anything. Hikari also took solace in that, that Right couldn't see how amazed he was at his leader.
He didn't know what to say, even if he could speak. He smiled, laughed silently and passed a hand through Right's blond hair.
