"His name came from his butter-fingers. You know, from when we played football and stuff." Cartman answered when the topic of Leopold Stotch's nickname came about. Butters has been his nickname since as long as the blonde boy could remember. His family, friends, and even strangers insisted on calling him the name. Now they were in the cafeteria, and they were discussing the origin.
"R-Really?" Butters asked, shocked by this meaning. That was an awfully odd reason to be called it by everyone, including his parents.
"No, dude, it's his name because he's soft." Stan corrected, biting in to his ham and turkey sub.
"I'm soft?" Butters murmurred, poking his own skin and musing the idea, not considering the alternative meaning.
"Isn't it because he's helpful? Like, you know, butter goes with a lot of things, right? And Butters likes to help out." Kyle explained.
"Ah.." Butters considered this theory. Everyone threw out their own opinions and possibilities, some even not dealing with the word butter.
"It's because he used to mutter a lot." Clyde stated.
Lunch was nearing it's end, and no one had come up with an official, definitive conclusion. They were going to just assume it was a dumb nickname, before Kenny spoke up, "It's because you're sweet." Kenny stared at Butters, everyone turning their eyes to look at the two, "You're sweet, like butterscotch."
Butters' eyes widened and his cheeks flushed, heat radiating from his face, "B-Because I'm sweet?" he stammered, a bit unsure if he had heard the other blonde correctly.
Kenny smiled kindly, "Yeah, and I bet you taste sweet, too."
Butters blushed deeply, stuttering and stammering, forming incoherent fragments that had no actual meaning. The bell rang, signalling the end of the lunch hour.
"You're such a homo, Kenny." Cartman sneered.
Kenny shrugged and stood, picking up his brown paper lunch bag and walking to class, leaving a stunned and very confused Butters Stotch.
