The plains of Montana were beautiful to many but not to Lindsay. The rolling plains and the wheat fields were beautiful but cast an ominous shadow across her two story house in Orchard Homes, Montana. It was the type of town that held secrets close. She knew that at a young age.
She always feared her Daddy. Her father who would spout Bible verses and then would contradict himself and would drink, swear and would read his dirty magazines when no one would be looking.
Her mamma was the preacher's daughter. She was innocent by the townspeople but Lindsay knew that she was living a double life. There had been many a time when she would hear her mother come home late from the local bar and when her father had to leave town, her mother would bring home her "friends". Lindsay was young at the time and she quickly knew the difference when she heard the bedsprings squeak from her mother's bedroom.
Lindsay pretended to ignore the moans and groans but her mother never let her forget that. Her mother would get on the same level as her and tell Lindsay not to tell her father about this. It was their own little secret. Lindsay not knowing, any better would listen to her mother and follow her wishes.
Then one day, her father came home early and caught her mother with one of her friends. Lindsay's father told her to get to her room. Lindsay heard all the cursing from the other man and from her father. Lindsay heard her mother beg her father to not hurt the other man. But all Lindsay could hear was the sound of breaking glass and the slam of the car door as the other man left. She thought it was all over. But then she heard her father say that he was leaving and with the sound of a slamming door, she was gone.
