AN: This pairing and story was inspired by Lexvan's story Unexpected Things. So you can blame him for this.
"You know, there are some people who would probably call this betrayal," Miranda said as she watched her lover get quickly dressed. Miranda remained on the bed, a simple wooden thing with soft off-white sheets. Her lover chuckled.
"You've been officially pardoned for five years now," her beautiful, impossible girlfriend said, giving Miranda a wonderful smile. "I don't care what anyone else says. I love you and that's final."
"Are you sure you don't want to come back here?" Miranda asked, reclining gently into the bed and the other girl smiled.
"You make a very tempting offer," she said with a smile, before her face became a frown. "But the girls and I have a mission to Avashta and I'm going to be needed there."
Miranda's face took on a bitter twist. Avashta had a lethal magical field that killed shapeshifters. There was no way she'd be able to accompany them this time. A sour look crossed her face.
"I wish you could stay," she said with a pout and her girlfriend turned, leaned forward and kissed her gently on the lips.
"I wish I could too," she said sadly. "But I promise that I WILL return here as soon as we're finished. Even if it means I just end up sleeping."
Miranda smiled and laid back in the bed they had been using. "I wouldn't mind. You always look so beautiful when you sleep anyway." Then Miranda gave her girlfriend a firm look. "Just make sure you come back Cornelia Hale or I will go after you and haunt you for the rest of your afterlife."
Cornelia laughed, her face lighting up to become a beautiful beacon in Miranda's eyes. She looked at Miranda.
"I promise," she said, before walking through the doors and to her next mission. Miranda watched her leave, before fetching out a small box from under the bed and she opened it once more. Inside was nestled a golden band with a diamond nestled in it. It was simple but elegant. Maybe next time she would have the courage to propose.
