"Say it."
Tears burnt down her cheeks in a solemn march of emotion. Her body was completely rigid as she stood in front of the glass desk and he stood behind it, his eyes boring into her.
She was lying to herself.
Lying to him.
He was lying too.
His rule was that everybody lies but there was always a reason.
To protect her, he told himself, to let her live.
To show her right from wrong. To bring her to the edge and hurl her backwards. To teach her.
She'd done everything to protect anything that was left in her shattered life but he just couldn't help himself. But she still loved him.
She couldn't help it.
Her lips pursed as she continued with her web of lies that she insisted that she weave.
Nothing could stop her but her wounded heart that beat all too quickly in her chest. She could feel him sinking under her skin. He could feel her eyes piercing through his as they stood in a lock that could truly never be broken.
Only three words, all chosen carefully, could break this web of lies.
Strangely, they were lies themselves.
"I hate you."
