Rachel awoke early Saturday morning, with a yawn. Sleepily looking
over at her clock, the bright red numbers greeted her tired eyes. She
closed and then opened them, trying to wake up. Stretching her arms out to
her side, she stood up.
Reaching for her bedside chair, she Rachel slipped her arms into a silk robe, decorated with spring flowers. Slipping her feet into some modest-looking slippers, she opened her bedroom door, and slowly walked into the kitchen.
Suddenly, Rachel gasped, having been surprised.
Joey was at the sink, only in his frog patterned boxers, washing something in the sink. He turned, hearing Rachel gasp, and made a funny face. "What?"
Walking over to him, Rachel peered over his shoulder. She saw two dirty socks in the water-filled sink.
"Joey! What are you doing?"
Shrugging his shoulder, Joey said, "My Laundry. Phoebe is using the washer, and I want my socks done right now. I'm going to meet Ross for lunch today." His face looked perfectly normal, as if he had no idea that washing socks in a kitchen sink was abnormal.
Groaning, Rachel shook her head, her long golden hair swinging. "Nevermind," she said, waving her hands at him. "I'm sorry I asked. I mean, there is a washer here in this place."
Understanding dawned on him, and Joey's eyes opened wide. "Oh yeah!" He stuck his hand in the water, and pulled out the wet, white socks. Walking down the hall towards the laundry room, Joey said, "Thanks Rach!"
Rachel rolled her eyes and smiled. "Don't mention it."
Placing her hands on her hips, Rachel glanced around the living room. "What was I doing?" Oh yeah! I was going to eat breakfast.
Turning, Rachel walked into the kitchen and opened a cabinet. Several cereal boxes were before her eyes, but none looked remotely appetizing.
"I guess I'll head on down to the café for a bagel or two."
A few minutes later, Rachel put on a white baby tee, dark jean capri's, and black sandals. She swiped her black leather purse from her bureau and went to the front door.
As she grabbed the doorknob to open it, someone pushed in from the other side.
"Oh!" Rachel gasped, surprised.
"Hello!" Phoebe sang. She walked into the kitchen and immediately began searching for food. Opening cupboards, and the refrigerator door, she began looking around rapidly.
"Phebes! What do you think you're doing?" Rachel said. "You've got your own kitchen across the hall!"
Phoebe pushed her blonde hair behind her ears, which were decorated with beautiful dangling earrings. She looked at Rachel. "Uh, looking for breakfast. Duh!"
Rachel waved Phoebe over. "Come with me! I'm heading to the café to grab a bite to eat. I'm suddenly famished, and I wouldn't mind company."
Smiling, Phoebe shouldered her purse. "Okay."
As the two friends began to walk out the door, Joey came running towards them. He waved his socks before their eyes. "Look! Look!"
Phoebe opened her eyes wide, comically. "What? What?"
"My socks! They're blue! When I put them in, they were red!"
Rachel glanced at the socks, and then Joey's face. "Did you take out my blue load that was in the washer, before you put your socks in to wash?"
Joey said, "Oh, I get it. You sabotaged my favorite pair of socks!"
Rachel mock growled. "Oh Joey! I did not! You should have checked the washer, before putting them in there! I always check."
"Well I'm not you!" Joey moaned.
"Well, duh!" Phoebe stated plainly.
Rachel laughed.
Joey walked away, grumbling beneath his breath.
Rachel shook her head, still chuckling. "Come on Phebe's. Breakfast awaits."
Phoebe walked out the door and said, "I'd rather face a crowd at the café, then Joey with his socks."
