Danny ran up the stairs following his partner, after a report of a man standing on the edge of the roof and Steve had just taken off like a Gazelle on the Serengeti. Danny had shouted orders to the others to stay on the ground and took off after Steve. He could feel the burn in his calf muscles with every step that he took, his lungs felt on fire as he struggled to keep up with Steve's much longer legs.

"Damn it Steven." Danny grouched as he saw Steve's body turn up another flight. "You're carrying me back down."

"Come on Danno, just think of the exercise." Steve shouted over his shoulder as he rounded another flight.

"Yeah I'll think about kicking your ass after this."Danny mumbled as he panted from the effort.

Steve chuckled but didnt slow down, his mind was fixated on getting to the roof. "I'll buy you a beer ok."

"You got your Wallet on you this time Commander?." Danny questioned.

"Um...We'll talk about it when we get down." Steve said.

"I'll take that as a no then." Danny breathed out. All talking ceased as they neared the top. Danny watched as Steve ran out the door that led to the roof and heard him shout out while he was running up the last few steps. He yanked the door open and saw Steve grabthe guys legs, but then fear gripped his heart in an ice cold grip as he saw his partner and best friend fly over the edge.

"NOOOO STEVE." Danny screamed as he ran as fast as he could to the edge. His mind screaming at him that this cant be happening. He was having a nightmare, that Steve was safe at home in bed. His heart hammered and he felt tears cloud his vision and he angrily swat them away. Nothing was going to stop him getting to his partner. This man had done so much for him after just knowing each other for a short while. Steve had become Grace's favourite uncle and was one of only a handful of people that he would trust with his daughters life. He knew that it would not only break his heart but also Grace's as well if something happened to Uncle Steve. He reached the edge and looked down. This can't be happening, god this can't be happening.

Tears were pouring down his cheeks. He had never seen his best friend so still, so quiet. The world lost focus for a time, he chest felt tight and he couldn't breathe. This isn't happening, this can't be happening. One minute they were laughing, joking and bantering as usual and now in the blink of an eye he might have lost his best friend, his brother, his partner and he couldn't take it. He sat down and leaned against the very ledge that Steve had gone over, he willed his hands and legs to stop shaking but his body wouldn't agree with him. Tears continued to pour down his face as his body was wracked with sobs. He took a couple of minutes to compose himself and he knew he had to get down to Steve.

It wasn't that he didn't care about the fact that someone else had gone over as well but his mind was full of Steve. The times that this guy had been there for him and his family, everything he had done for Danny. He pushed himself up and made his way to the stairs they had just run up and started to make his way down. His steps were much slower than going up. Even though he wanted to get to Steve asap, the weight of what had just happened was overwhemling. The tears were still pouring as he reached the bottom of the stairs well. He could hear noise outside the door leading to the street as he rested his head against it. People screaming, shouting orders, sierns blaring.

Danny rubbed his eyes and his cheeks to remove the tears, then ran his hands through his hair as he took a deep breath and finally opened the door. He walked out and was immediately engulfed by Chin, who held him tight.

"I'm Sorry." Danny whispered. "I couldn't save him. I'm sorry."
