Chapter One: Only Copy
A small hum filled a local book store on a rainy and cloudy mid-day afternoon, no it wasn't one of the employees, in fact it had been the owners son. He helped the store out once in a while and in return he got to take a book home. Chestnut colored hair fell against his face as he proceeded to empty out one of the shipment boxes. Most of the books had been the same till he got towards the bottom of the box. Amethyst colored eyes blinked a bit before checking the box then the shipping log. Odd why would anyone ship a book and only one book. Standing up a bit as he moved over to a computer to check the logs there, and he got a rather big surprise. Not only was there no record of the book there was no record of the author either. Holding up the book he called out, "Hay, Phil, can I have this book?" A distant groan caught his ears which he guessed was a yes as he placed the book by his things. A book that was not on file, this was something he had to read. It meant that he was holding the only known copy.
He finished what he could, about two hours later before saying his good-byes to the manager. "Try staying out of trouble Duo." the manager called out after the teen, knowing he could get sometimes. Duo waved it off as he ran own the street. He was excited to get to reading the new book, two hours had been long enough for him. So it had been a good thing that his family did not live far at all. The home was nothing big, two bedrooms at the most. His parents liked to spend there money on 'other' things. As he walked up to the door he noticed a small tabby kitten sitting there as if waiting for him.
"Well hello little guy. Are you lost?" Duo asked before he bend down to pick up the kitten. "I'm home." he yelled though there was no point in it really, his parents were on vacation in Las Vegas and he had the home to himself, he just found it polite to say it. Placing his bag on the kitchen table before moving into the living room, one hand on the book and the other was holding the cat. He placed the cat down on the couch before sitting next to her. Turning the book over as he looked at the front of the book.
GOLDEN CHILD
by Peter Carter
It had an interesting name that was for sure. Humming a bit before he moved his braid over his shoulder, it was the one thing in his life he was actually proud of. Turning the book to the back as he went to read what it would say about the book only to find out that there was in fact nothing written. It was odd almost like the author didn't want anyone to know about the book. Shrugging his shoulders as he opened the book to begin his reading.
Warning the continuation of this book could result of a lost in unknown worlds
Duo blinked when he read that, what was that supposed to mean. He had never seen anything like that before. He shrugged his shoulders at that, he figured it was joke thrown in by the author. It probably meant that it was such a good book that one could get lost in it. Shaking his head before he turned the page so he could start reading before he suddenly felt a wind. Odd, there had not been one before. Maybe he had left the windo up and forgot about it. Placing the book down upon the couch as he moved over to the windows, trying to see which one was open before he suddenly felt the wind getting stronger. Looking around before he noticed that the wind wasn't coming from any window but that it was actually coming from the book. What kind of book was this. A light started in his vision before it got brighter and brighter before taking over his vision, then it left him in complete darkness.
