A/N: Yeah, I don't know what I'm doing anymore. Instead of finishing the next chapters for Just You Wait and Closest Friend I've Got, I wrote this oneshot *shrugs* So Laurens is dying, I was thinking from Cancer, and Hamilton and he are already and established couple, so... I wrote this while listening to That Would Be Enough, most of the lines are from the song but changed to fit the situation. Hope y'all like it!:D

John sat down next to me, looking around the park with glistening eyes. He raised his hand and wiped his running nose with his sleeve. He turned to me, gently placing his other hand on my shoulder.

"Look around, look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now…" He gestured around the park, where small children were playing while their mothers chatted. "Look around, look around…"

"How long have you known?" I whispered, shaking my head. His gaze dropped to the ground.

"A month or so."

"Laurens, you should have told me." I choked out. He brought his eyes up to mine.

"I talked to Washington a month ago," He told me.

"No." I croaked.

"I begged him to send you home." He slid off the bench, kneeling in front of me. Taking my hands in his, he looked up at me.

"You should have told me, John." I murmured. He closed his eyes and nodded.

"I'm not sorry, I knew we'd fight until the war was done," He began.

"The war's not done…"

"But we deserve a chance to love someone." He finished, the side of his lips turning up on his freckled face. "Look around, look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now!"

He stood again, taking me with him. We stood eye-to-eye, cherishing the silence for a moment. But, what if he wasn't cherishing it like I was? What if… what if doesn't want to be with a man who has nothing?

"Will you relish being a poor man's guy," I mumbled. "unable to provide for your life?"

He chuckled. "I relish being your guy. Look around, look around…"

We looked around the park, noticing that everyone had left. The sun had lowered, looking up at the arriving moon. The children and their parents were long gone, leaving only shoe prints in the grass. Even the birds had left, off to their warm nests and families. My eyes meandered back to my lover, lighting up when I see his eyes trailing around my face.

"Look at where you are, look at where you started," He breathed. "the fact that your alive is a miracle. Just stay alive, that would be enough."

"John, I'm not the one you should be worrying about." I muttered, my eyes beginning to water. "I don't pretend to know the challenges you're facing, I know there's no replacing time you've lost…"

I cupped his face, taking in his bright brown eyes. "But I'm not afraid, I know who I served with. Just stay alive, that would be enough."

He smiled. The beautiful, dying bastard smiled; his big, dorky teeth showed. The gold flecks in his deep eyes brightened when he smiled. The sides of his eyes crinkled when he smiled. His cheeks went rosy pink when he smiled.

I fell in love with him all over again when he smiled.

"You'll always be enough for me, Alexander." He announced. "We don't need a legacy, we don't need money. We just need each other, we'll be enough."

"Laurens… I like you a lot."

I smiled at him, him and his knowing grin. Washington can wait, the war… can wait.

The closest friend I've got, more than a friend now, is dying. And God be damned, I'll be with him 'til the end.
