Mary Hightower sat at her desk reading her own book, "Tips For Taps". But she wasn't really reading. Instead, in her mind ran memories she wanted to forget, but cherished and despised at the same time. Children were returning, each of them finding their niches without her help. She was returning to power in her perfect queendom, and the infallible emotions she felt for Nick began to fade, but she could never truly forget the chocolate-covered face of his.
Putting her book down, she tugged at the lacy collar of her uniform, as if trying to make it more comfortable. Around her neck was a locket containing a picture of her and her younger brother, Michael Edward McGill. It had been one full year since she'd 'defeated' (or more so, reverted), The McGill, one true monster of Everlost, into Megan McGill's little brother, and he'd all but disappeared. But rumors told and confirmed by Finders report seeing a boy bearing a complete likeness to Mikey accompanied by an Alexandra doppelganger. It was weird too, Allie disappeared the same time Mikey did. Also around her neck was her coin, the one that would 'get you where you're going'. It always seemed to be perpetually cold, but anyways, she checked every other day for a change. Reclining herself on her chair, her reverie switched from past events, rumors and the well being of her make-shift orphanage to Nick.
Still in her hand was the coin. The faceless steel ingot brought back so many memories. The scintillating scent of chocolate, the comical, but cute, look of chocolate on his mouth, (Right now, Nick had just erased all traces of chocolate on his mouth, a well-timed coincidence), his undying loyalty, his unique personality, and after minutes of reminiscing all the times she'd spent with Nick, her mind brought her to that particular day on the fifty-eighth floor. The feel of his mouth, the taste of Hershey's Chocolate (This was a cruel nickname they'd given Nick, another coincidence.), a short-lived, but forever-remembered kiss. The mix of feelings trapped within herself, and the sheepish apology after wards. After that, every moment was 'Nick, Nick, Nick', and even though Mary Hightower wasn't like that anymore, the hidden but true identity of Mary, Megan McGill, still wished it to be 'Nick, Nick, Nick'.
.. and if only she knew, right now, Nick was thinking the same thing.
