The Door, the Key, the Rose, and the Stone

Another poem inspired by Stephen King's The Drawing of the Three. Looks at how Jake, Eddie, Susannah, and Roland represent the Door, the Key, the Rose, and the Stone. Also originally written in 1998. These are... different. But short and sweet.

THE DOOR
Jake the door. Jake the door in his death to Roland for the three doors of the Drawing. Jake the door in his second living the death of he who opened the three doors for Roland to open the Drawing. Jake the door in that his sudden living he opened the door for which he had a key but only half and stepped through. Jake the door that in his lasting living he will again die and open the door for Roland to his scarlet ground a way to the Dark Tower.

THE KEY
Eddie the key. Eddie the key in which his drawing opened the door to the second. Eddie the key in which he found in the block of ash that opened the door for Jake to come through. Eddie the key in which Susannah found her anchor and opened the door to peace while they travel. Eddie the key which led Jake to the door which he was supposed to travel through. Eddie the key which his death will open for Roland the door to the scarlet ground and the Dark Tower stretching it's evil head into the sky.

THE ROSE
Susannah the rose. Susannah the rose in which she unfolded a beauty and brightness for Eddie and Roland. Susannah the rose for which she surfaced her delicate petals and showed her fierce yellow burning sun center to Eddie and Roland. Susannah the rose which she showed both kindness and the sharp thorns of determination to Eddie and Roland. Susannah the rose which led Jake to the key and sang their voices. Susannah the rose which led Jake and bloomed for Eddie and burst forth radiance for Roland. Susannah the rose which in her death and wilting will provide a path for Roland to his scarlet ground and Dark Tower lancing its spires into the ever clear sky.

THE STONE
Roland the stone. Roland the stone which will not give up its rolling for the Dark Tower. Roland the stone which will stand against all protests from the door, the key, the rose. Roland the stone which is cold yet wants to love, promises yet doubts, and weeps yet not cries out. Roland the stone which hates itself but does not stop. Roland the stone that points the way to the Tower. Roland the stone that tramples everything in the path to the Tower. Roland the stone that is unmoving in its quest. Roland the stone which weighs heavy on the others' backs, and marks the others' graves. Roland the stone that marks its own grave in the shadow of the great and powerful Dark Tower.
