Raw pulled the concealing brown cloak a little tighter around him, his nails piercing the sturdy fabric. He'd gotten it from DeMilo near the beginning of their quest, and now, as then, it kept people from recognizing him. Well, most people.
"Raw?" DG said, placing a concerned hand on his shoulder as she sat next to him. He tilted his head to rest his cheek on her fingers, but didn't respond. "Raw, what's wrong?"
"Kalm want to go home. Raw need take Kalm home."
"That's a good thing though, yes? Kalm asked to go home." Kalm had rarely spoken since the witch's power had been broken, withdrawing into himself. Raw had been beside himself trying to soothe him. Cain had said that he was in shock still, and would be fine, but sometimes it was hard to believe the boy would recover from the stress and fear of his imprisonment at the hands of the sorceress. And this was only compounded by Lalo's loss.
"Raw don't want to leave DG alone." Raw pointedly didn't look at the princess. He wasn't sure he could say it looking into her earnest eyes.
"I'm not alone, Raw," DG said, hugging him and running her fingers through his hair. "I've got my family, and Glitch and Cain. Kalm only has you. He needs you more than me."
"DG family strangers, and Cain always gone. No support for DG. Raw can't leave DG." DG sighed. They were both silent for a while.
"Well, that's it then," DG said finally. Raw looked up at her, slightly alarmed at her tone. "I'll just have to go with you." She stood with a smile and took his hand. "Come on. Let's go find Glitch. I'm sure he'd love a trip as well."
