Slightly AU…had to change Jasper's opinions on some things in order for the story to work.

Jasper had passed from one life to the other almost seamlessly. The differences were stark, but few. He had found Maria. She had welcomed him with open arms when she found out about his military experience. He became, once again, the leader of an army. Although now it was an army of the undead. Of new born vampires. And recruiting was not hard; it was almost fun, even if difficult. He still killed people, though now he did it with his bare hands instead of weapons. And there was no cause, like there had been before, nothing he was fighting or killing for, other than the burn in his throat. He had changed from a killer to a killer, from a leader to a leader. He had lost nothing other than his mortality in the transition. And he had gained so much more.

His senses were more acute. He could see for miles, hear everything, smell everything. It made battle very easy, being so attuned to everything around them. And he was strong. And lightning fast. He could move with such ease now. He was made to easily dole out death. And with Maria, that's just what he did. And he had Maria. He had someone to be with. He wasn't dumb; he knew it was a union of convenience. They had the same goals, the same accomplishments, they traveled together there was nothing more than that.

Jasper liked his life. He liked the war. He liked the recklessness of it. He enjoyed being what he had become. He enjoyed knowing he was so powerful. He enjoyed knowing he held all of the cards. He had never dreamed of giving up his life driven by instinct. He had never wanted to. Not until…

"Finally…I've been waiting for you…" the voice belonged to someone that he knew immediately was like him. She would be ice and stone if he touched her, she would be cold and hard, just as he was. She was small, appeared to be delicate, pixie-like. The most adorable vampire he had probably ever seen. Her eyes danced with amusement at the confusion clearly broadcast across his face. "I'm Alice."

He was entranced. He had never felt this way, not vampire, or human. "Jasper." He answered with a ghost of a smile on his lips.

"I know," she answered, truthfully, in a way that seemed almost flippant. His eyes met hers and he was taken aback by the fact that they weren't on fire like his. They were glowing, brilliant, golden.

She explained that night how she knew. Who she was. Why their eyes were different colors. And she made him an offer that was almost impossible to refuse. Almost. She stayed with him, hunted her way, while he hunted his. Never judging. And before he knew what was happening, he was hunting with the enchanting creature. He was drifting from Maria. He was falling in love, just as she had said he would.

When she left, so did he.

After meeting the family, he stood in her room with her, hand in hand, side by side, glowing for eternity, like stars in a constellation.

"I love you," he finally whispered to her, the truth of his feelings that had built. He was immediately glad that he had. He felt the excitement coming from her in waves. He felt the sentiment returned. And even though she didn't have to, she replied.

"I love you, too."

"I know," he teased her of her line on their first meeting and was rewarded with her laughter, like the tinkling of little bells.

In this strange new life, with this strange new family, was where he would spend the rest of eternity, next to his glowing Alice.
