Watching Him
He doesn't see me, doesn't smell me, doesn't hear me. I've made sure of that. I know, he would kill me in a heartbeat. But I'm not letting my mortal fears stop me. I smile, thinking about the shopkeeper. He was so surprised at first; why would such an innocent girl need al those weapons? He soon found out that I'm not so innocent. I savor the memory of his death, he died with such grace. Not many people do, most of you start to pray, cry and beg. Beg, hmm... yes, I love to hear you beg. Makes the kill much more fun. But I'm digressing; I'm not here to brag. I'm here to watch Him. My next kill. Oh, I smile as I remember the day I received this assignment. It started out to become 'one of those days'; by the time I entered the office, everyone who saw me silently backed away. I didn't want them too, I wanted to hurt someone, hurt them bad. Maybe I would let them live, then again, maybe not. I opened my office door and immediately knew She was there. She was sitting in my chair, My chair! Smiling in that infuriating manner. Without saying a word, She rose, laid down a piece of paper and left. As fast as I could I went for the piece of paper, wanting to burn it, when a single word caught my eye: Spike. I couldn't believe it! Spike, for me? Quickly I read the instructions: 'He is yours; he's your reward. Take as long as you need. You will be given all the recourses you will need. Kill him.' A huge smile appeared on my face. I got to kill him, Yes!
And now I am here, watching His every move. I can't help but notice how beautiful he is. His blue eyes, his smile, his... No! I will not go there! This will only distract me. And distraction means death, my death. Not something I want, not now. Not by His hands. Oh, no, not by Him. My death is not for Him. I silently shift my weight, I'm getting bored. Ah, He's leaving. Now's my chance! I know he's already fed, I saw him. Not that it will make much of a difference, He 'IS' a vampire. As I slowly move forward, He looks up. He looks directly at me! No. He can't see me, even with His eyesight. He looks down, and I let out a sigh of relief. Get it together girl! He doesn't know I'm here. That's impossible! I've taken every precaution possible. I see Him walking outside. I wait five minutes before I follow.
I follow Him to an ally, I frown. He's not supposed to go there, not tonight. He's supposed to go to Dru. She's waiting for him. I shrug. He's probably getting tired of her ramblings, I know I am. As I approach the ally, I feel al my instincts kick in. Somethings wrong here, very wrong. Before I can react, I'm grabbed from behind. I kick my attacker, turn in his grasp and stake him. Another attacks, and another. They keep coming at me; I don't know how many I've killed before I feel an unbearable pain in my chest. I fall on my knees, unable to control it. The attack stops, I look up. He's standing in front of me.
"You 'are' good, pet. Not good enough, though."
I hear Him laugh. He laughs at me! He's making fun of me! I feel my anger rise. Reach in my coat and take out a stake. He grabs my wrist, breaking it. I try not to scream. I look at Him. He bends forward; I feel my heart beat faster. No! This wasn't meant to happen! He cannot kill me. My death is not for Him! Then I remember the look on Her face, She looked satisfied. She knew! As I feel His fangs penetrate my skin I know. This isn't my reward. This is my punishment. I feel my strength fade. I try to speak. I try to move. He's feeding off me. He drinks my blood. I smile.
