"Lamentation"

A Star Wars Fanfiction Poetry

-

The burden of memory is too great.

Those sad actions taken: justified

*

I loved them.

*

I loved their children;

Their sons and daughters.

I loved their children's children;

I loved their brothers, sisters.

*

I loved their uncles and their aunts;

Their nephews, nieces and cousins.

Their mentors.

Their friends.

*

I still love them.

*

I cannot save them.

They are lost to me;

Tied to destiny;

Hurried by the Fates.

*

And yet I still love them.

*

That great mystery: love

It has many forms;

And many powers.

*

It's said that love is the most powerful emotion.

I am inclined to agree; with some reservation.

*

Love, not tempered, devastates;

As much, or more, than creates.

*

Our memory is replete with such example.

Glorious names; loved and reviled. Remembered.

*

Paris and Helen

Anthony and Cleopatra

Tristan and Isolde

Anakin and Padmé

*

Their love brought down the greatest societies man has known.

Their tragedies are imprinted in the memory of man.

*

For their actions, the Fates lament:

"All we have known is different now…"

"All is altered…"

*

The brilliant noon dies;

The Sun sinks downward;

Twilight covers all.

*

Eternal night reigns.

*

Again, the Fates sing…

*

"The days of glory are over…"

END

Note: The site does not do poetry well. The lamentations are quotations from a London newspaper shortly after the passing of Queen Victoria of Britain in 1897.
