Author's note: Short, I know, but sue me, why don't ya? Actually, don't. I need the twenty bucks I have to buy birthday presents for meh friends. :D So the disclaimer appiles. This is for those of you that don't believe in long-distance Mimato relationships! Mwah hah! ::flies away, far away::
I'll be in your arms
Christmas trees and shop windows twinkled with the innocent shine of lights, while presents were loaded up into various shopping bags, stuffed to the brim with gifts. Yet, she felt strangely apart from it all.
She reached up to touch her hair, an insistent habit of hers, looking across the street in a dazed way. This isn't my home. This isn't where I belong, she thought, transfixed as she stood in front of her front lawn, her fingers clamped tightly around her DKNY purse. No longer a child, but a young woman... she cherished her childhood memories, though they reminded her of what she couldn't have. A normal life.
"Is that too much to ask...?" She murmured, her words lost in the rush of bustling street activity. She dug inside her purse, to find a red and blue phone. Clicking unhurriedly at the dial, she held it to her ear and listened.
"Hello? Ishida speaking," came the far-sounding voice of her boyfriend, the sound of a guitar strumming in the background alone.
"Hey, Yamato." She replied into the phone, glancing about to make sure no one was in hearing distance. Some people were near her, but none of them particularily close.
"Tachikawa!" A loud crash, such as when one falls off a chair, could be heard from the other end as she winced.
"Are you okay? Yamato?" She asked worriedly.
A groan came from the line, and a he said in a quick voice, "Yeah, of course. Just...a bit...um, accident." She gave a small smothered giggle, burying her head in her scarf; Yamato could always make her laugh, no matter how depressed she had felt before, or how furious.
"Yamato?" She whispered in a small voice.
"...yeah?"
"I..." She sounded hushed, even to herself, and quickly let out three small words that meant to so much to herself, and to him. "I...I love you."
A long silence retained, and she was afriad he had hung up on her. Finally, a deep, anxious tone came through. "I love you, Mimi, too." A warm flush coloured her cheeks, and suddenly she felt exuberant, overjoyous. So this is what Christmas is all about, she thought hazedly, struggling not to burst out and smile like an idiot.
"I want to see you, Yamato. It's Christmas." She whimpered into the phone.
"I know. You don't know how hard it is not to just jump on a plane and fly over to New York, Mimi," he said in a soft voice, "You know I want to."
"So why don't you?" She asked, pouting even though he couldn't see it.
After a few minutes hesitation, "....you're right. I should. I will."
"Really?!" She almost screamed with delight, her blush intensifying. "When?"
"Tonight. I'll see you tonight, at the airport, ok?"
"Yeah." She nodded to herself, memorizing the gate number and flight. "Ok. I'll see tonight. I'll plan something just for you," she said sweetly.
"And...Mimi? ....I love you."
"I love you too. Forever and a day." She replied as she hung up happily. For now, it was way too late to try
not to grin like a moron.
A/n: A bit late for Christmas, I know, but i didn't want to change the mood any. Can you say,
"awww....?" Anyway, I debated whether or not I should have Yamato's plane crash when he was
boarding... :P But that would be cruel.
