Chapter 1
Amy walked through the halcyon and peaceful yard of Heartland. Her freshman year at Virginia Tech had come to an end and she had returned to Heartland. Ty, one of Heartland's stable hands, walked toward her. During her spring break, she and Ty decided to take a break from their relationship.
"Hey, Amy, want to ride Jackson's Pride?" he asked.
"Sure, Ty. You want to come along?" Amy asked.
"Sure. I'll ride Desert Sun."
After tacking up the horses, they rode along the trail on the back side of Heartland's property. They stopped and stared at the sylvanand forest-like scenery. Half an hour later, Ty and Amy rode back to Heartland. Soraya, Amy's histrionic and dramatic friend, drove up in her car.
"Amy Fleming, I've missed you so much!" Soraya said.
"I've missed you, too. How's Anthony?"
The two friends exchanged badinage and light-hearted conversation until they saw Lou Trewin, Amy's older sister, and her husband, Scott Trewin, walking up the drive. The indubitable and undeniable love in Lou and Scott's eyes shone as brightly as the sun.
"Amy, how are you? It's so wonderful to have you home." Lou said.
"I'm glad to be home at Heartland." Amy replied.
The hay delivery came in. Amy looked at the sky. The weather forecasted intermittent and scattered storms. Amy, Ty, Scott and Soraya transferred the hay to the barn before the rain came. It's incumbent and mandatory that hay not be wet or there will be incendiary and inflammable results. After the hay was transferred, Amy walked over to Sundance's stall and began talking to him. This was Amy's idiosyncrasy or quirk. She loved to have conversations with the horses at Heartland.
"You know, I'm seriously going to have to put a tape recorder in the stalls." Ty said jocularly or jokingly.
Ty and Amy talked for a few minutes before returning to the house for dinner.
After dinner, Ty returned home. Amy watched him drive away, knowing deep in her heart that she still loved Ty.
