Of the awful battle of the pekes and the pollicles and the horrendous rehearsals leading up to the show.
In which Munkus comes up with a Plan
Munkus sat on top of the tyre looking out over all the jellicles thinking. It was only a few months until the ball, incidently his first ball as jellicle protector and he wanted to do something spectacular. Something that jellicles would remember for years to come. Most of all he wanted to make his father proud, but what could he do?
All the cats were very theatrical and all enjoyed being in the spotlight, so he could use that... In a talent show maybe? Unsual talents from practical cats. Old Deuteronomy could judge it. Jenny would most certainly enter her mice, and the kittens could do their cute little ribbon dance, and -did he even dare think it- Tugger his bagpipes. Ah but what could be the prize for the winner. No maybe that wasn't the best idea.
Then he remembered years ago, when he had just been a little kitten, Gus had put on a performance of Growltiger's last stand. It had been fantastic. He'd been in the Siamese chorus and had had so much fun, and more importantly it had been a huge success. Mabey he could do the same. Well no not exactly the same, he wanted to do something original, but that still left him with the problem of what to do.
It was at this point, when glancing around for inspiration, that he saw the kittens playing one of their favorite games -Rumpus Cat, the legendary superhero. The tom kits had all found scraps of material that they had tied around themselves for capes. They were flying around the queen kits, who in turn were loudly protesting that it wasn't fair and that they wanted to be rumpus cat too.
Munkus chuckled fondly at the memories of first being told that story as a kit. None of them dared go out on their own for weeks for fear that the Rumpus Cat would eat them. Yes it had made a very good story indeed, and then the thought struck him. What if he were to do a production of "The Great Rumpus Cat." He was so pleased with his plan that he hurried off to tell his mate, Demetra all about it.
When he finally tracked her down she was in their den buisily gossiping with her sister Bomba. He sat down next to his mate, gently playing with the tip of her tail, while he patiently waited for her to finish her conversation which mainly seemed to be about how Victoria was to be mated to Plato at the next ball. Interesting, he hadn't heard that before.
Eventually they had finished talking and Bomba bid them both farewell. She was barley out of the door when Munkus excitdly recounted his amazing plan.
"That sound wonderful Munkus" Demi exclaimed when he had finished "but do you think you'll have enough time, the balls only two months away after all."
"Of course. Two months is loads of time"
"Of course." Demi smiled.
Later that afternoon Munk stood on top of the car, with Demi sat by his side, as various jellicles gathered in front of them. When everyone was present Munkus started to relate to them all what he wanted to do. He was rewarded by seeing many excited faces beaming up at him.
"And so if anyone is interested" he concluded jumping down off the car "please come and speak to me." He was of course immediately surrounded by eveyone in the clearing.
Munk was in fact so excited that he sat up writing the play until long after the sun had set. He even went as far as to create an audition schedual, where Jellicles could put their names down for different parts, which he put up in the clearing the next morning.
As soon as the paper was secured the cats converged on it squeeling excitedly and arguing over the pen.
