Corran felt very odd that morning when he woke up. Somehow he felt like he should recognise the feeling from somewhere, but he could not remember where. He went through his normal morning procedures, ending with a big mug of caf as he headed towards the briefing room.
Wedge was already in
the briefing room before Corran had even finished his breakfast. He
had been up for quite some time now, not that he was well rested or
anything. He just had not been able to sleep. So now he was sitting
on the briefing room table with a big mug of caf in his hand, talking
to Tycho about the briefing, and the guest they expected this
morning. Except for the two of them the briefing room was completely
empty even though the briefing was scheduled to start soon.
When
they were done going over the briefing, Tycho went out through one of
the two doors, leading into the briefing room to head for the
refresher station, leaving Wedge alone to ponder his resent
insomnia.
On his way down the corridor Corran pondered the
night's dreams. He could not make sense of them. All he could
remember was that he had been sick from something he had eaten, and
then he had been on Yavin with Luke, but everything else was too
foggy to make out. As he went through the door to the briefing room
the odd feeling grew, and Corran became even surer that he should be
able to recognise it.
Wedge turned to greet Corran, as he
entered, noting the tired look on the pilots face. Just then he heard
the other door open and knew it had to be Tycho coming back. At the
same moment he saw Corran's face change from tired to horror to
fear and then to confusion. Wedge almost smiled looking at the pilots
face, but kept his face blank and turned to see what was happening at
the door behind him.
There stood Tycho giving Corran a confused
look, but nothing out of the ordinary. Wedge then turned back to
Corran who still looked confused. His jaw had dropped, and he stood
completely still with his mouth wide open.
"Trying to catch
bugs?" Wedge asked. He just could not help the smile anymore.
Corran just pointed at Tycho while moving his mouth like a fish
struggling for air. Wedge turned to look at Tycho again, then turned
back to looking at Corran. "What's wrong with Tycho?"
"That's
Tycho?" Corran asked. Now Wedge got really worried, Corran had
never been able to keep a straight face for this long before.
Wedge
did not answer Corran's question instead he asked. "Can't you
see Tycho?"
Corran just looked dumbfound for a few seconds then
he asked. "When did Tycho turn into a peanut?"
That comment
made both Wedge and Tycho laugh, even though they both knew that they
should be taking the situation a bit more seriously. It took them a
few minutes to get it back together.
"What do you mean? Tycho a
peanut?" Wedge asked when he had finally stopped laughing. Corran
just looked confused.
"What is all the laughing about?" It
was Luke that had unknowingly chosen this very weird time to appear.
"You're here!" Wedge looked up in surprise, "thought you
were going to be late?"
"Well, I overcame the delay." Luke
replied, "What's going on?"
"Well, apparently Tycho has
turned into a peanut over night according to Corran." Wedge said.
Luke's face clearly showed his surprise at the comment. Without
speaking he turned to Corran, merely raising an eyebrow. Corran still
looked confused, but he met the jedi's gaze without hesitation.
Luke half closed his eyes in concentration as he reached out to
Corran with the force.
"You have been mind tricked." He said
matter of factly.
Somehow Corran managed to look even more
surprised at the statement. Luke continued to look at the pilot then
he slowly continued,
"By your self."
