I Hate Everything About You

Every time we lie awake
After every hit we take
Every feeling that I get
But I haven't missed you yet

Near curled himself into a ball, protecting himself, his pale face buried into his feather pillow. He felt small and vulnerable and, mostly, weak. His brown eyes were wet still, the trail of tears fresh down his cheeks.

Every room mate kept awake
By every sigh and scream we make
All the feelings that I get
But I still don't miss you yet

They'd been fighting again.

Mello and himself.

Before he wouldn't have cared but now …

Near rolled over and held his bruised cheek softly, the pain throbbing through his whole being.

"Mello ..." he mumbled pathetically, closing his eyes.

Only when I stop to think about it
I hate everything about you
Why do I love you
I hate everything about you
Why do I love you

Mello hissed as he dabbed water on his dry, cut lip. He sighed, dropping the tissue into the sink, and stared into the mirror. Near had punched him a good one, his lip was almost completely split.

"Fuck him!" Mello cursed under his breath, clearly annoyed. They'd been fighting again but they hadn't had a real fight since …

Every time we lie awake
After every hit we take
Every feeling that I get
But I haven't missed you yet

… since Mello had kissed him.

They couldn't tell anyone about it – not even Matt knew about it – but they'd been unofficially together, out of public gaze. In the open, they were the same as ever but in private …

"Man, I want Near." Mello mumbled to himself, inwardly yelling at himself for wanting that 'bastard'. With a sigh, he left the bathroom and approached his love's room. He paused at the door, considering whether to go in or not. He was really still pissed but he couldn't leave Near alone for long – the resolve was gone.

Only when I stop to think about it
I hate everything about you
Why do I love you
I hate everything about you
Why do I love you

Reluctantly, he knocked on the pure oak door. "... Near?"

Receiving no answer, he slowly opened the door and stepped in, closing it behind him. The room was dark and stuffy, as per usual, but Mello didn't care about that. What he did care about was curled up against his white sheets, cradling a yellow bruise. He crouched down beside the bed, laying his hand gently against the smaller boy's white hair.

Only when I stop to think
About you, I know
Only when you stop to think
About me, do you know

Near looked up and met Mello's brown eyes with his tearful ones. They stared at each other for a while before Mello gently touched the bruise he'd made, making Near wince.

I hate everything about you
Why do I love you
You hate everything about me
Why do you love me

"I'm so sorry." Mello whispered, his voice filled with pain.

Near smiled slightly and ran his thumb over the cut lip. "I'm sorry too."

I hate
You hate
I hate
You love me

Mello straightened out and climbed over the small boy, curling up against his back, resting his head against the feathery white hair.

"I … hate everything about you so why do I love you." Mello sang softly into his ear before kissing Near's lips gently, ignoring the pain in his own.

"I love you." Near whispered, looking up at the man before him.

"I love you too." Mello said with a smile.
