Caleb sat up in his bed suddenly. Looking around his small room, he realized that it was just his alarm clock and lay back down. His eyes sprang open when he remembered that it was the big day. Today he would be getting his starter Pokemon!

Picking himself up out of the bed, Caleb stretched, and pulled on his clothes. He remembered the words that his mother had told him the night before…

"Remember, you want to pick an outfit that you will be comfortable in, if not, your journey will be miserable. And we know that you don't want that."

Mentally thanking his mother, Caleb walked over to his rather small closet and began looking through it. After five minutes, he had picked out a short-sleeve black shirt, a red vest to go over it, a pair of blue jeans, his red and white tennis shoes, and a red and white hat to go on top of his head.

Looking at himself in the mirror, he decided that he did not look half bad. He examined his appearance closely. He was ten years old, stood around four foot eight, weighed about eighty lbs, and he had a swimmer's body. His hair was an auburn color that never seemed to stay down, no matter how much he brushed it.

Caleb rushed downstairs and gave his mom a hug and a kiss and rushed outside. The town of Pallet was very small, and easily the biggest building was Professor Oak's laboratory. Rushing towards the large building, Caleb began going over the Pokemon that he would select. Finally, he arrived.

Professor Oak greeted Caleb as he walked through the door, and saw that the other trainers were already there. Taking a seat, Professor Oak started a projector that showed images on a white board.

"Welcome young trainers, to the first day of your journey. First, I will tell you that this journey is very dangerous and there is a high possibility that you might die. Now, each of you will be receiving a bag which will be able to hold a variety of items such as berries, pokeballs, potions, held items, Technical Machines, and Hidden Machines. You will also receive a Pokebelt, which will hold your Poked and all of your Pokemon. Now about your Pokedex, it is an encyclopedia which you will rely on several times during your journey. It gives information on every Pokemon known to man and can give you statistics on your own Pokemon, such as their attacks, what level they are, and their nature. Also, it will act as your identity. Now without further ado, let me present you with your very own Pokemon, Caleb Stack, you are first," the Professor recited from memory.

Caleb stood up and followed Professor Oak down a hallway, where they arrived in a room filled with Pokeballs. Oak picked up one from a table and handed it to Caleb along with his Pokedex, a Pokebelt, and a bag.

"Now Caleb, this Pokeball contains your first Pokemon. It is a very rare Pokemon from the Sinnoh region, say hello to Riolu," Oak said.

Caleb stood in silence until he finally came back to senses and pressed the button in the middle of the ball, a beam of light shot to the ground and out came a Pokemon with blue and black fur, as this happened, it sunk in that this was Caleb's Pokemon.
