"This is a dangerous mission," Chiron said.
The old teacher stood in front of a small group of demigods in the Big House. News had reached the Camp that a young demigod may have been on the run and were now discussing what they should do.
"Does he know who his godly parent is?" Percy asked, looking around the pictures of the demigod on a small table. The demigod in question had jet black hair and a soft brown skin tone. His eyes were almond-shaped and they look sharply at whatever it was that had caught his attention. His eyebrows arched and his arms tensed, this demigod was not someone anyone should cross paths with.
"No," Annabeth answered for Percy. She too looked down at the pictures.
"Where was he last seen?" Grover asked, fiddling around with his flute. He did not take a single look at the pictures sprewn on the table.
"Boston." Chiron said. "Near Fenway Park. There was a game there last weekend."
"We'll be heading to Boston then?" Percy asked for confirmation.
Chiron nodded his head and looked up at the boy. "Yes."
Percy nodded in reply. He then looked over at Annabeth to his left. She stared at the pictures and Percy knew she was thinking hard. But Percy sighed as he thought about how Annabeth had been keeping her distance from him. He hadn't confronted her about it yet but was still bothered by it. However, he knew they needed to talk and so resolved to talk to her after the meeting.
"Ok," Chiron spoke up. "I expect the four of you to start your new quest this Saturday. Oh, and don't forget to visit the Oracle. Good luck." With a farewell wink, Chiron escorted the three out of the Big House.
The sun shone brightly on the wary trio as they walked on the grounds of Camp Half Blood. It was mid July and wasn't all that hot; in fact, the weather was almost perfect.
Grover took in the fresh air, smiling for himself. "Well, I guess I'll see you guys later. I have a date with Juniper." Grover flashed them a smile, waved goodbye and walked off to the strawberry fields, leaving Percy and Annabeth alone.
Annabeth cleared her throat.
"Um," she said nervously, "I got some homework to do, I'll catch up with you later Percy." Annabeth said before walking away.
Percy frowned. Annabeth never called him that. She hadn't even made eye contact with him.
"Annabeth," Percy called out to her.
Annabeth looked back. "Yea?"
"Is everything alright?" Percy asked, walking closer to her.
"Yeah, w-why would you think that?"
"Oh, I don't know, maybe because you try to avoid me every time we're alone? Maybe because we can barely hold up a conversation anymore?" Percy responded, staring her down. He knew he was being brutal but right now he desperately wanted answers.
Annabeth pursed her lips and looked up nervously at Percy. "Percy..."
"What?" Percy asked. "What is it?"
Annabeth opened her mouth to speak but before she could say anything someone called her name.
"Are you gonna help us with this homework or not?" Shouted one of the girls from the Demeter cabin.
"Yeah, you made a promise!" Shouted another girl, clearly trying to fit in.
"Coming!" Annabeth shouted back to them. She looked back at Percy. "I'm sorry Percy but I really have to go now." And with that, the young girl took off, her blond hair bouncing in the air.
Percy sighed as he watched her leave. It was 6 in the evening and the camp was full of people as usual, but right then and there Percy had never felt more alone.
