Just something I wrote while trying to think of a chapter for "Shadow Play" and watching my cat play.

Jack, Don't You Dare!

"Absolutely not!" said Ianto glaring at the team leader.

"Ianto, we don't even know what it is," said Jack. They were the only ones on scene since it was reported to be a small creature. Owen, Toshiko, and Gwen were at their homes enjoying the time off.

"It's harmless! It hasn't hurt anyone."

"It unlocked doors," said Jack waving his hand at the creature. "How can a creature that size unlock doors?"

"Obviously it's an intelligent creature so we are not penning it up."

"But it could get loose and cause a panic."

"That little dear?" asked Ianto waving a hand at the creature looking up at them with bright red eyes. "The only thing she will cause is a mystery. She's too normal looking."

"How do you know it's a female?" asked Jack looking at the animal. He couldn't see a difference in gender.

"It's too adorable to be a male. There's a certain feminist quality to her."

"You can tell that just by looks alone?"

"Can't you?" Ianto looked up at him in confusion and Jack shook his head. "Well, we'll know when we take her back to the Hub."

"We're still caging it."

"We don't cage Myfanwy," said Ianto in defiance. He crossed his arms and glared at his team leader.

"Myfanwy's different…"

"Myfanwy is a freaking dinosaur! How is that different?!"

Jack scratched his head and looked at the alien creature. Ianto did have a point on not caging Myfanwy; they even let her out every once in a while to stretch her wings, but the chances on this creature escaping was too high. He couldn't risk any more exposure.

"What if Myfanwy eats it? Then what will you do?"

"We'll cook up something that'll make Myfanwy stay away from her. A Myfanwy repellant."

"What if that doesn't work?"

"Now you're just making excuses, Jack."

Jack blew in his cheeks, trying to think of another way to convince his teammate to have the creature penned up. Ianto was dead set on keeping this animal loose.

"Fine," he said. "But she's your responsibility. If she's outside without my permission even once…."

"Gotcha, sir. Did you hear that, little one? You're going to live with us."

The alien cat meowed and jumped into Ianto's arms, rubbing under his chin and gave a rumbling purr. Her fur wasn't an orange color like Earth domesticated cats but a bright golden color and her eyes were a ruby red.

"I think I'll name her Fancy," said Ianto.

Jack tried to reach up and pet her but the cat's long talons flashed and scratched his hand and she hissed up at the immortal showing her one inch incisors, her short one inch tail bristled. Jack yelped and sucked his injured hand.

"I told you she was smart," said Ianto with a laugh.

Jack just glared at him as Fancy continued to purr, wondering how a primitive species ever managed to reproduce with how much they argued.
