Finding Out

"Hi guys, how are you?" Doctor Wilson asked after she had called them back into the exam room.

"Good, we are excited!" Jackie said with pure happiness in her voice.

"That's good, I thought you might be."

The doctor checked Jackie's vitals and all the mundane stuff and everything looked good.

"So I take it then that you want to find out what they are?" Doctor Wilson asked.

"Well, Nick and I had differing opinions on that so we are going to compromise, we want to know what one is but not the other." Jackie told her as she looked at Nick who shook his head in agreement.

"That's a good idea, and actually with twins that's quite common for couples to do."

Nick and Jackie once again smiled at one another.

"What do you think they are?" Her doctor asked the couple.

"I say twin girls." Jackie said.

"And I say one of each." Nick told her.

"Well let's find out, lay back Jackie."

Jackie did but then she made a face.

"What's the matter?" Nick asked her.

"I'm sorry but before we start the ultrasound I really have to use the restroom."

Nick laughed as he helped her sit upright and then get off the table.

Pretty soon Jackie came back and was ready to get the ultrasound going.

"Both babies are doing great, here's baby A's heartbeat."

Nick leaned over and gave Jackie a kiss on the cheek as the sound of baby's heartbeat filled the room.

"And here is baby B's."

The couple stared mesmerized at the screen.

"And here is baby C's." Dr. Wilson said.

"What?" Both Nick and Jackie exclaimed at once.

"Kidding, kidding, just seeing if you were both paying attention."

Nick and Jackie burst out laughing, they had to admit the doctor had gotten them good.

"Are you sure you want to know what one of them is?" Dr. Wilson asked.

She always wanted to ask her patients one last time before she revealed what a baby was because there was no going back.

"Yes!" Jackie exclaimed.

Nick laughed at her but he shook his head in agreement.

"Ok." The doctor responded.

"Oh look here, a money shot, the baby isn't making it difficult, can you guys see?"

Nick and Jackie looked excitedly at the screen.

"A boy?" Jackie asked as she squinted at the screen as best she could.

"Yeah, baby A is a boy, congratulations."

Nick leaned over and gave Jackie a soft kiss on the lips as happy tears began falling from her eyes.

"Well so much for my prediction of twin girls." She told Nick with a smile.

Nick laughed.

"Can you tell what the other one is?" Jackie asked the doctor.

"Jacks, we had a deal." Nick told her with a mock frown on his face.

"I know, I don't want her to tell us, I just want to know if she can tell." Jackie assured him. (In truth she did desperately want to know but she had made a deal and she loved Nick enough to keep it.)

"Turn your head the other way and I'll see if I can tell." Dr. Wilson told her.

Jackie turned her head away from the screen and Nick watched Jackie to make sure she didn't peek, Jackie kept her word and faced the other way.

"Well Jackie, you don't have any reason to be upset with Nick because unlike it's brother baby B has it's legs crossed and I wouldn't be able to tell you guys what it is even if you wanted to know."

Nick smiled playfully at Jackie.

"I'm still mad at you." She told him jokingly.

Nick laughed.

"That concludes the ultrasound, do you have any questions about anything?"

"I don't think so, not right now anyways." Jackie told her.

"Ok, if you think of anything feel free to give me a call."

"We will, thank you." Jackie and Nick both said with a smile.

The couple then left the clinic, overjoyed and excited!

The End!
