Obsession: A Case Study In Criminal Minds Addiction
Objective: to produce and record the effects of criminal minds obsession and withdrawal from criminal minds stimulus.
Dr. in charge of evaluation: njr09230
Subject: Criminal Minds fanatic, female age 24. Named undisclosed due to confidentiality agreement.
Day one: Thursday
7:00 am
The patient watched a new episode last night. So far she appears to be acting normally. However, when making morning coffee it was noted that she added 5 scoops of sugar. When questioned she said, "I need something that will wake me up." It is not yet clear whether this is normal behavior, or a side effect from the show. Further study needed.
9:15 am
Things continue to progress well. The patient seems to be in good spirits, but tends to drift of into space a lot. She has also been heard humming what appears to be the opening song played during the credits of last nights show.
11:30 am
When asked about last nights episode, the patient became excitable and flew into a descriptive re-cap including wild gestures and quotes, as well as personal views about the actions of team members of the BAU and the rest of the cast. She seems very passionate about the topic.
12:45 pm
Patient appears to drift off into a dream state frequently. She has been sketching in a notebook, but refuses to let anyone see as it is, "not finished yet." She is also sipping on her 4 cup of coffee
2:09 pm
A call came to the phone at the main desk. The patient jumped in front of the secretary to answer it saying, "Talk dirty to me." A clear reference to one Penelope Garcia, technical analyst of the BAU from criminal minds.
3:55 pm
The patient has finished an entire 8 cup pot of coffee herself and appears to be done for the day. Strangely it does not appear as if the caffeine is having any effect. This is possibly masked by her "normal" hyper activity.
6:00 pm
During dinner the patient attempted to engage in debate about fact we learned she gained from the statistical ramblings of one Dr. Spencer Reid. When everyone refused to respond to her, as they had no idea what she was talking about, she stormed off to her room where she remains, refusing to talk to anyone.
8:15 pm
The patient emerged and acted as if nothing unusual had happened. She is currently reading Serial Killers which contains biographies of some of the mort notorious serial killers known. When asked about the book, she said she was trying to learn more about them and why they did the things they did. She refused to answer why, and it is speculated that she yearns to have more in common with the characters from the show.
10:05
Patient has just watched CSI and through out the show made comments on how they could catch the suspect using profiling instead of forensics. Also made note on how this show refers to the killer as "suspect" instead of "UNSUB."
11:53 pm
Patient can be heard talking in her sleep. Something about "Spencer" his "magic hands" and how she love's his "Reid." We are thoroughly confused has we believed this to be his last name, and not something in his possession. Will have to look into said terminology.
End of observation day one.
**Author's note: Well, day one down. How crazy do you think the patient is? Does she remind you of anyone? If so, would you like some psychological help?
Mary, no comments on me offering to provide psychiatric treatment! It's a legitimate offer.
