~ Essence of Life ~

Her life wasn't a life that anyone would have wanted their life to be. It was not a normal life. And it wasn't a fair one either. Well, at least it was until a car hit her from behind when she was small.
All it takes was just a few second and then fate took everything she ever had. She didn't have the time to fight, didn't even have the time to process what just happened to her.
All she remembered are the shouts of the people, the excruciating pain, and then all was black.
When she regained her conscious, she can no longer feel the weight of her arms and legs. She tried to move it, and yet all she felt was this numbness that made her stomach twisted and turned in a wrong way. She saw her mom smiling a wry smile, but the glistening tears on her mother's eyes clearly couldn't lie to her. She was paralyzed. The doctors said there was no hope for recovery. And when she knew that, not only her body was numb, her heart started to feel numb as well.
She can't run, she can't write a diary, she can't go to school. She can't meet with new friends; she can't have a boyfriend or a future. From that moment, she is a person with difficulties and she had to accept that fact whether she likes it or not.
She is no longer the energetic Yui. She is no longer the Yui that she herself ever knows.
She was becoming a burden. A trouble. She can't do anything if not from the help of others, and she hates it. She has to live in this meaningless life, where she just clings onto other people to help her with her needs. She has to suffer by seeing her mother worked so hard to help her do the simple daily routines. She has to face her weakness in every seconds of her life, and she hated it.
She hated being a person with a disability. She hated not being able to move. Furthermore, she hated herself for taking her mother's time and energy. It was not fair for her to sacrifice her life to nurse a pathetic paralyzed daughter when on the contrary she could just go to work and meet with her friends. She wished that her life would just end and her mother will be free.
It's not like her life was at the very lease useful anyway.

When all life flows along with time, hers just stop at a certain point.
When all people will graduate from high school, entering the university, and finally will have a job and a family to love, she will never have those privileges. She will never get a job she always wanted. The ultimate happiness of a woman, she also can't have that. She can't even pay her parents for what they've done for her.

Every time she saw the mirror, for a few seconds she can see her old self. The one who's free to move her body and always so cheerful. But then that reflection blurred into the present. It turns into the sick Yui. The pale Yui. The Yui who can't do anything by herself. And every time it happens, she cries.

God had taken all of her happiness from her.

In those boring days, her only escape was the television, where she could see the spark of dreams the people emitted in the shows. Baseball, wrestling, music… There are so many things she wanted to do... The things that she wanted to do by herself, without the help of anyone else.

The things she can do with her own strength.

And when she snaps out from her dreams, the darkness slowly creeps back to her heart. She cries again.

She wished she wasn't hit by the car.

She wished for everything that fate has stolen from her.

And with just that, her life ended.
