It was the Eve of Christmas Eve and also the Jeffersonian Christmas party tonight. Temperance didn't want to go, but it was a work function and she needed too. Plus, everyone attending the party she considered family. She walks past the mistletoe where a couple of Christmases ago she kissed him and he kissed her back she smiles at the memory. Though, that was just what it was a memory of a long time ago. Sighing she walks on toward everyone.

Please take down the mistletoe
Cause I don't wanna think about that right now
Cause everything I want is miles away
In a snow covered little town
My momma's in the kitchen, worrying about me
Season's greetings, hope you're well
Well I'm doing alright
If you were wondering
Lately I can never tell

For a moment, just a moment she stops and watches everyone an outsider looking in. Booth has brought Hannah to the party just as to be expected. Everything she wants is so far away, out of reach yet only a few feet in front of her. Christmas was supposed to be a family time when loved ones gathered close together.

Though, Temperance had learned early and was again reminded not everyone spent Christmas with family. Foster kids didn't have their parents; military families spent many Christmases away from loved ones, she told herself she would be fine.

I know this shouldn't be a lonely time
But there were Christmases when you were mine

She watches as Angela laughs at something Hodgins says. Sweets has his arm around Daisy and they join in Angela's laughter, Cam's new boyfriend is telling a story now and Miss Julian rolls her eyes at what he is saying. Booth has his arm around Hannah who is talking now everyone laughs at what she says. They all look so happy, he looks so happy.

I've been doing fine without you, really
Up until the nights got cold
And everybody's here, except you, baby
Seems like everyone's got someone to hold

She walks up to the group "Hey Bones!" She inhale putting on her mask.

"Merry Christmas Temperance." Hannah smiles genuinely at her and she flashes her fake one in return.

"Don't you just love Christmas Dr. Brennan?" Daisy didn't think when she spoke sometimes.

But for me it's just a lonely time
Cause there were Christmases when you were mine

"Merry Christmas to you to Hannah."

Merry Christmas everybody
That'll have to be something I just say this year
I'll bet you got your mom another sweater
And were your cousins late again
When you were putting up the lights this year
Did you notice one less pair of hands

The Christmas party had been harder on her than she thought it would as she drove home. She wished she could keep thoughts of him out of her head. She remembered the Christmas Miss Julian felt "puckish", the one he and she opened the door to that toy shop and for a moment they felt like little kids again, the Christmas he and Parker surprised her with the Christmas tree for her family, and the one where they had Christmas dinner with her cousin Margaret and everyone else. She smiles a sad smile then there was this Christmas.

I know this shouldn't be a lonely time
But there were Christmases when I didn't wonder how you are tonight
Cause there were Christmases when you were mine

Yes this was the first Christmas he was going to spend with Hannah instead of her.

You were mine

it just seemed to fit..
