"Hey, Diddle Diddle"
Even Black Butlers enjoyed their free time.
From time to time and night to night.
Sebastian played a lively tune, almost scratching out each note on the violin. He leaned back against the tree, his expression one of intense concentration. His toe tapped the grass lightly in the stark moonlight and one dark cat ear twitched with a late summer's breeze.
Ohh. What a lovely sight! Playing the fiddle on a summer night!
Oh! How adorable! Mr. Sebastian as a cat! Fancy that! A Black Cat!
As the pace increased, the moon was pleased
His face was all aglow.
The butler nodded, and the moon applauded
(Though he had no hands to show.)
The boy in blue then took his cue
Scowling at butler and moon
But the one in red with blood to shed
Did grin and praised the tune.
He took to the air, was hardly up there
When the boy began to laugh;
He never had seen, a death God so green
Try for the starry path.
Shinigami take flight, with all of your might;
Fly over that envious moon!
And go to that butler, embrace both his arms, sir,
And fall into a swoon!
But alas, something glinted; the cutlery sprinted
Along with a curious plate.
The butler stopped playing, his nerves clearly fraying
He avoided a deathly hug fate.
He jumped to his feet, ran off down the street
To capture the errant place setting.
The one in the red, big teardrops he shed
For no hot love he would be getting.
The boy in the blue took off his left shoe
And reached for a golden horn
"The sheep are all roaming! Your work you're disowning!
The cows are in the corn!"
Bochan stamped his bare foot.
"YOU are the groundskeeper! Go do your job!"
"I'm sorry, Young Master, I'm sorry! Please don't can me!"
Finnian sat up in bed and blinked. It was dark. It was quiet. Had he been dreaming? In the bed to his left, Bard mumbled in his sleep something about "frying the daylights out of it" before settling into a snore.
Finny took a deep breath. A dream. A dream! It was a…a very strange dream…
"But Mr. Sebastian looked so cute as a cat with a—"
Finny blinked. He felt something on his lap. Oh yes! The book! Mr. Sebastian had been teaching him how to read and he had been practicing so hard before he fell asleep. He loved this book so much! It had those funny rhymes that he could recite almost by heart now:
High diddle diddle,
The Cat and the Fiddle,
The Cow jumped over the Moon,
The little dog laughed to see such sport,
And the Dish ran away with the Spoon.
Diddle, diddle, dumpling, my son John,
Went to bed with his trousers on;
One shoe off, and the other shoe on,
Diddle, diddle, dumpling, my son John
Little Boy Blue,
Come blow your horn,
The sheep's in the meadow,
The cow's in the corn;
Where is that boy
Who looks after the sheep?
Under the haystack
Fast asleep.
Will you wake him?
Oh no, not I,
For if I do
He will surely cry.
