Title: Brothers

The cool autumn breeze blew leaves against my feet. My long strands of red- brown hair constantly whipped against my face and occasionally getting into my mouth. It was irritating but I tried to ignore it as much as possible. At the moment I was walking through the park with Shuichi and Yuki, talking.

Well, Shu was doing most of the talking. Yuki and I were just listening to him babble on and on. I was quite used to it by now, although I couldn't say the same for Eiri-san. Shuichi had invited me out to dinner with them and we were just walking home now. Suddenly, the two turned sharply to the right.

I blinked and just looked at the two as the continued to walk back to...Their apartment. I sighed. I missed the times when Shuichi and I used to walk down these darkened streets at night. We always ended up at my house somehow but tonight... Not tonight. I had to remind myself that he had Eiri- san now.

In silence I walked down the next block, my head dipped low as I contemplated and began reminiscing about the past. I stopped at a street corner, leaning against the pole of a stop sign. Too many memories... I looked up into the black sky where a few stars faintly twinkled. A bright light suddenly distracted me and a came back to reality.

A car was heading my way, and I stepped back quickly. Whoever was driving that car had to be crazy because it was actually going over the curb and towards me. The car stopped about 3 inches away from me and I stood frozen to my spot. A familiar face popped out of the car window.

"Hey there, lil' bro." I twitched slightly at how calm Yuuji seemed.

"You almost ran me over with a car!" I yelled, getting straight to the point.

"Well, that's okay 'cause it didn't happen, did it?" I sighed and stepped away from the front of his car. Those headlights were starting to burn my corneas. Taking hold of the passenger seat's door, I climbed inside the car. "Hey, I never said I was going to give you a ride."

"It's the least you could do after almost making me road kill." I said with a slight glare. It's weird that I can't really stay mad at Yuuji for long. His carefree attitude is almost infectious. He gave a small laugh, backing up the car as he did so.

"Alright, alright." We drove in silence except for the radio that was pumping a small soft tune of music. "Say, bro. What were you doing out here so late anyways? You looked like you were just dumped or something."

"I just finished going out to dinner with Shuichi and Yuki-san." I muttered, turning my gaze towards the window.

"Ah...that explains it. They left you behind or something?"

"Sorta..."

"Well, that's alright. You don't really have to worry about being alone you know. Even if Shuichi is with Yuki-san he's still your friend and I'm still here for you, bro." I couldn't help but smile slightly. That was Yuuji alright. "Oh, I almost forgot." He reached down towards the floor, the car swerving slightly as he did so. Before I could say anything he had handed me a soda.

"Thanks..." I said hesitantly.

"No problem." A sudden honk got our attention and Yuuji roughly jerked the car back on its course.

"Watch the road!" I yelped.

"I am, I am!" At that moment though, I found myself trying hard not to laugh. Even though hanging out with my brother was dangerous, he certainly cleared my troubled mind.
