The Phantom of the Opera Revised

How It All Began…

The story begins in 1905. There is an auction held on the stage of the Opera de Paris. Christine and Raoul, now in their late sixties are at the auction. As the music box with the monkey playing symbols is being displayed and ready to be auctioned off.

"Raoul. That's the music box that I was telling you about. Remember?" Christine whispered in her husband's ear.

Raoul closed his eyes as he remembered that night where he'd almost lost his life…

"Yes. I remember. Such a beautiful piece or artwork. A collector's piece indeed." Raoul whispered back.

"Shall we start the bidding at fifteen francs?" The auctioneer called.

"Seventeen francs!"

"Twenty francs!" Raoul shouted.

"Twenty-five francs!"

"Thirty francs!" Raoul shouted again. There was a moment of silence.

"Going once, going twice. Sold to the Vicomte and Vicomtess de Chagny for thirty francs. Thank you sir."

"Now we shall auction off Lot 666, the chandelier in pieces. Some of you may recall the strange affair of the Phantom of the Opera: a mystery never fully explained-"Christine and Raoul exchanged knowing glances at each other "We are told, ladies and gentlemen, that this is the very chandelier which figures in the famous disaster. Our workshops have restored it and fitted up parts of it with wiring for the new electric light, so that we may get a hint of what It may look like when re-assembled. Perhaps we may frighten away the ghost of so many years ago with a little illumination, gentlemen?"

The auctioneer switched on the chandelier and as it is being raised to the center of theatre, the old dusty room was refurnished to its earlier grandeur. Christine began to remember memories of how the true story of the Phantom of the Opera all began…
