Katniss Everdeen once was, to his eyes, a sweet being with a gentle voice, the kid with the raven braids Peeta fell in love with and then the strong and independent girl thanks to he won the Games.
She was all of this once, but now he can't remember anymore, the raven haired kid is drowned into that sea in his unhealthy and rotten mind.
He hates her, and it's her fault.
So when he sees her after too much time, advancing hesitantly, almost hopefully, but with those monster's eyes that, Peeta has to remind himself, he should have noticed years and years ago; when he catches sight of her, he jumps on her and circles her neck with his hands, and he presses, presses until he can't hear her screams, presses until he can't feel the skin reddening and the bones cracking, presses until he sees her life coming down slowly and slowly from those monster's eyes that, if only they hadn't stopped him, now would have finally left him alone.

Katniss was once really beautiful to his eyes, and also source of hope, and then she was a monster with bloody eyes, while now she is neither one nor another.
It's not easy recognise what is true and what is false, but many friends are helping him and even her, who told him, one day "You will do it, in the end. Patience has always been your virtue"
So, with calm and efficiency, Peeta forces himself to enter in his mind and organise everything into that mess left by the Games and tortures. He focuses on deatails, ropes in an abyss, little lights of hope, and he holds on tight to them, with all his strenght. He always has headaches but he does his best and maybe sometimes he is able to rediscover smiles or caresses or even simple glances with no more hate.
This kind of moments, they don't last long, because that rope breakes and he falls down again, but Peeta doesn't give up and he tries again, always.
After all, patience has always been his virtue.
