Just a short and sweet Jily one-shot
James Potter didn't know when he fell in love with Lily Evans. It really could have been millions of separate occasions, but he didn't remember the exact moment.
It could have been when he saw that red hair for the first time and said to the marauders, "She's mine."
Remus had replied with something logical of course. "She's not property."
Maybe he fell in love with her when he finally began seeing her turn into a woman. He remembered clearly telling Sirius, "I'm going to marry her someday."
"Mate, we're fifteen, don't think about marrying some witch you barely know. Maybe start with getting her to be your girlfriend." And he did, on hundreds of occasions.
He could have fallen in love with her when she rejected him for what seemed like the millionth time. It had hurt more that time and that was why he paused his constant efforts.
Perhaps it had been when they were made head boy and head girl. When he had finally grown up enough to be someone she deserved. Maybe love required a level of maturity that James had yet to posses even then.
It could have been when he asked her out and she said yes for the first time. Or maybe when he took her flying and she held onto him so tightly that he felt his heart leap in his chest. It might have been when they moved in together or when she would lean against his shoulder rather than a pillow. It could have been the first time they kissed and she held him so close that he thought they could never be nearer.
Maybe it was when he asked her to marry him and she said "Yes." Or possibly the time he realized she would be a Potter.
But none of that mattered. When he saw her, looking so nervous and beautiful, in her white dress he could think of nothing but her. And then he fell in love again.
