Longing
I do not own Kingdom Hearts. It belongs to Square Enix and Disney.
Author's note: I made this oneshot last year to work on description. I know it's short, but this is an experiment that I've decided to share with you all. I would appreciate constructive criticism.
Saïx gazed at the heart-shaped moon with his gold eyes, its pale light filtering through the blue-green stained glass, turning the room a color reminiscent of ocean water forever frozen in place, window panes casting long shadows on the floor and walls. He put a black gloved hand on the glass over the moon and clenched his empty fist. Kingdom Hearts... How much longer must he wait before he could receive his heart? How much longer must he endure the hollow ache in his chest where his heart should be? Tonight, like every other night, he felt empty.
He was hollow.
He was nothing.
The more he stared at the moon, the more his chest hurt. It was amelancholy sight that was both depressing and beautiful as the celestial body hung suspended in the dark night sky. He forced himself to turn away from the sight, closing his eyes as he put his back to the scene.
"It's beautiful, isn't it?" Asked a velvety smooth voice.
Saïx opened his eyes to see Xemnas sauntering torwards him, colors in the light rippling across him as he moved. His skin's usual soft coffee color was marred by blues and greens. His silver hair shone brightly in the light, as if his hair itself was its own light source.
"And to think that we only need a few more hearts to achieve our goal..." He trailed off, muscled arms outstretched as if he would pluck the heart-shaped moon right out of the sky.
Saïx remained silent, listening to Xemnas' voice reverberate through the room, echoing only a second after he had finished speaking.
"What then?" Saïx asked, looking into the Superior's golden eyes. "We get our hearts and go back to the way it used to be, so long ago?"
"Then we can finally exist, Saïx. Don't you think all of the time the Organization has spent culminating hearts is worth it to finally be complete again?"
Saïx nodded curtly, blue hair shining in the light.
"Sora will come soon, and with it, the climax of this raging battle. It won't be long. We lay divided and in ruins thanks to him and now we only, including you and I, have four members left."
Saïx began to think about the history of the Organization in the silence that followed. How Marluxia took over Castle Oblivion and staged his rebellion, along with thesecretive Zexion who was working his way up from the dark basement levels. Axel and Roxas...
Shortly after Roxas' leave, Axel followed suit like a lost puppy following its master. As soon as Saïx could get his hands on that traitorous dog, he'd beat him until he begged for his pathetic existence to end.
"Do you remember our old motto, Saïx?" Xemnas asked.
"United we stand. Divided we fall." He recited.
"And we are falling... Time is running out like sand trickling down the hourglass." There was no mistaking the hard edge to Xemnas' voice as he spoke. "We must prepare for Sora's arrival. We shall have a meeting tomorrow morning. Until then."
Xemnas left the room with a slightly theatrical turn, robe billowing behind him majestically. Saïx was utterly alone again, left to ponder dreary thoughts as his gaze once again returned to the moon.
