Though the Wammy House had been a grand situation for learning, it had not offered one valuable class

Near looked down the bridge of his nose at the little people below him. Lego people, technically, but people-shaped none the less. His pale hands moved them along their daily schedules, which he had assigned to all of them.

He placed one in a small car, carefully bending his legs and locking his seatbelt in place before shoving him off in some random direction in the room. To work, he supposed.

"Near?"

The voice was small and light. Easily identifiable as female. "Yes Halle?" Near said, not looking up from his toys.

The woman coughed lightly, kicking away the small car that had rammed into her foot seconds earlier. "Regarding the case, Near," she said looking at the boy on the ground.

He sighed and pushed himself into a sitting position. "What is it?" he asked, twirling a pallid finger in his hair. His eyes passed over the car at her feat. On his way to work, the Lego-man had crashed into a tractor-trailer, preoccupied with changing the radio station. His resulting death had left his wife and two children without a breadwinner, forcing his former spouse to find a low paying job. His daughter became a prostitute. His son became a rapper with a chart topping single, but later spent all of his money on bling and cocaine, then died of an overdose.

Or something like that, Near decided.

"Kira has chosen a new spokesperson…" Lidner said, "Kiyomi Takada,"
