A/N: Written for Sora Riku Yaoi is Addicting. Slightly inspired by the Katy Perry song of the same title. And yes, it's an AU.
They could be ordinary. All of those little high school sweetheart quirks were there; holding hands in the hallway, bringing home the other's homework on sick days, cute (annoying) banter back and forth.
"Got it memorized?"
"Do you ever shut up?!"
"Not unless you make me, Roxy."
They could have been like everyone else, from the populars to stoners to even the popular stoners. But in the end, they're just Axel and Roxas, nothing else. Plain and simple. And you never got one name without the other. Sure, they fought (Fought and fighting are understatements. More like struggle and brawl. Emotionally, of course, they'd never physically hurt each other. They would in other physical ways, if you catch my drift.) But life is always too short to stay mad long. Even in their first meeting, the anger never lasted.
"Hey, cutie, is this seat taken?" The red-head rested his hand on the chair in question, tipping it back slightly."
"I'm sitting in it. What the hell do you think." The smaller boy sitting in the plastic seat pulled the chair legs closer to the table. He pursed his lips. "And I'm not cute!"
"Oooh. Fierce." Axel gave the boy a little shove and sat on the edge of the abused chair.
Roxas flailed his arms, trying to get the taller student off him . "Hey what are you doing! I'm sitting here!"
A boy sitting a few tables away took this opportunity to walk over to them, Mohawk-mullet demon-spawn bouncing happily on his head.
"Ah. Sorry there Roxas, I guess you've already met Axel."
Enemies became friends, best friends, inseparable, maybe-something-more, an item, lovers. But that's just the way the world works, it's fate, y'know?
Sometimes, after school, after life was done for the day, they would just sit in the park for a while. Hands would run though the other's hair and sweet whispers would be passed between. They had their spot, a small corner of the park – under an oak tree, by the water, and a single picnic bench. They'd had their first kiss there, back when they were inseparable-maybe-something-more. It was unnerving at first; both had leaned into the other unconsciously and had melted together at first contact. There was a heat between them, something more – so much fucking more - than friends and they both knew that this was something bigger than even them. Love, plain and simple. And as Axel grazes his lips over Roxas' slowly and Roxas pulls him closer automatically they can feel the heat and the sticky-sweetness and the electricity and power and the dizzying feeling that comes from just being near each other. Roxas' hands tangle in Axel's hair and he holds Roxas tightly around the waist, tightly so he'd never lose him, but at the same time light enough that it sends shivers up Roxas' spine.
.Axel – got it memorized? – Suave, hip, edgy senior. Roxas – Enough with the catchphrases already! – Sometimes overly mature, sometimes pathetic sophomore. Opposites attract is a tune overly used in high school romances like this one. But truthfully, something as plain and simple and clichéd as those two words describes them best.
Plain and simple.
