For some reason, Jim was the only one that noticed that Leonard McCoy wears a pinky ring. To him, the fact was glaringly obvious, considering the amount of movement Leonard's pinky actually made on a day-to-day basis.

He used his little finger to tap open his communicator, and constantly flicked it against the pad of his thumb when he was nervous.

Jim always seemed to catch the exact moment just before Leonard tipped a shot back, when his pinky would curl against the little glass, or the second that the alcohol burned down Leonard's throat, he nudged his nose with his ring.

Jim also noticed that McCoy always twisted the ring around his finger when he and Jim were talking, or drinking, or sitting. Jim's eyes were unceremoniously drawn to Leonard's little finger.

And, one day, while staring at Leonard's pinky finger, twisted around the rim of the shot glass that was being shoved his way, Jim wondered how he seemed to be the only one that noticed the little trinket.

But, then again, Jim had an eye for what made his best friend look good, and this definitely counted as one of those things.
