I walked in to the bull pin. It seemed to be empty aside from a man sitting at a desk in the back. I hated talking to people, but I had no choice sometimes. So I walked over to the man. He had dark brown hair that was cropped to his head. He looked more worn than most I had seen at the bureau. He was looking at a file on his desk.
I cleared my throat about ten feet away just in case he was a little trigger happy. He turned his head and looked at me.
"Can help you?" he asked.
"Um… I was wondering if I am in the right place. I'm looking for the BAU. They said I would find SSA Hotchner here." I said then noticed how small my voice sounded.
"Well that's me. What can I do for you, Miss…?" he asked smiling.
"My name is Jessica Chase," I said meekly.
"Oh, yes our new profiler. Well you are early but that is your desk over there." He said pointing at a cubicle in the corner. "Don't know why we need another but it's not up to me." He said turning his attention to the door where people were coming in. I knew I wasn't wanted and had begged not to be put in a spot that wasn't open. But they hadn't known where else to put me. I never talked much but when I did it was because someone asked me a question about a case. I was information girl in my last unit.
Five people walked in laughing together. I walked over to my desk and straightened a piece of paper. I peeked at the people coming in. Two girls and three guys, the girls looked so in contrast with each other. One was a tall blonde and the other a couple inches shorter, a darker skin tone and dark brown hair. The guys were even more contrasted, a much built chocolate skinned man, an older muscular man, and a skinny long haired man. They all went to all different offices and desks. The brawny black man came and sat at the desk next to mine where agent Hotchner had been sitting.
I was rearranging my desk when three of the profilers came over.
"Hey sweetheart what is your name?" the one that had a desk by mine was the first to talk. I looked up confused about why he would call me sweetheart.
"Excuse Morgan he calls everyone sweetheart or baby girl, I'm Emily Prentiss and this is Dr. Spencer Reid." She pointed at the small skinny man.
"Oh, I'm Jessica Chase." I said smiling shyly. I looked around and they all seemed really nice but I was trained to never let my guard down.
"I'm Derek Morgan, I think you met Hotch and Rossi is the big old guy." Morgan looked at the door of one of the offices up stairs.
"Hey your catching up to him aren't you Morgan?" the blonde said coming out of her office.
"You can't really catch up to anyone in age unless you were born in the same year which Morgan and Rossi clearly weren't." Reid said watching me straighten my desk. I was thinking the same thing so I looked up at him.
"Reid is the resident brain." Morgan said smiling at Reid.
"Oh, Miss Chase is quite the brain herself. Isn't that right?" Agent Hotchner said coming down the stairs. I ducked my head and smiled meekly. He had most likely been up in his office doing research on me. He probably knew that I was an obsessive compulsive and that is one reason why my last boss had asked for my transfer. He probably knew the other reason also.
"Hey guys I came out to tell you we have a case so everyone in the 'room' now." The blonde said demanding.
"Come on newbie, time for work." Morgan grabbed my hand and startled me. He and the rest of the team led the way. I may actually belong somewhere, I thought as I was lead into the 'room'.
