The light rain sizzled on the gray cracked pavement. Warmed air wisped ghosts from my mouth after sucking in the sharpness of the Cold. There was the solid thunk of the door and the familiar chirp of the car alarm. A quick glance sideways, I saw he had rang the metallic chime of the zippo, flaring the tiny flame into existance; minute embers crackled as the cigarette burned to life. Just another night, like any other night.
Sigh. Surprise me tonight, please.
He had already started walking. I was in no hurry and followed carelessly, fishing my pockets for an imaginary object. An air of silence was between us, but a foreign sound started to crescendo as we pressed forward against the winter breeze and towards the Music.
Faintly at first, I heard it. A weak thump thump... a steady and faithful heartbeat. It was thick and warm; the warmth of orange waves singing against the night air. The waves resounded towards us, fading and dying in the sharp teeth of the Cold.
We headed towards the warmth, our final destination of the night. A looming figure was waiting for us at the gates of inviting blue adrenaline. I felt it already. We were headed towards Life against the gray urban landscape.
