One More Revelation

He was terrified. He didn't want to. He'd lost so much already.
"But I have to," he thought, and closed his eyes, thinking of Katara, of how it felt to step out of her embrace.
It was like untying a knot that had been strangling his heart. He'd had it wrong. He didn't have to cling to Katara to love her; he didn't have to cling to anyone. He could stand and they'd stand, their choices as valid as his own.
It was a relief to love, just love, his hands open, and empty, and free.
