Author's Note: This was part of a drabble series I was doing which I may or may not continue. Maybe not with just LoK but I may use the drabble prompts for some of my other fandoms. That sounds good. Hope you enjoy this short little thing.
There he goes. The most gorgeous firebender I have ever laid eyes on. I lean back into my seat, sighing sadly. He'll never notice me. Yeah I know I'm the Avatar and all, but I don't want to be noticed just because of the title. I mean… not in what I hope could happen with him, love and all. Ha, love. I never thought I'd consider it. I'm fine on my own, I can take care of myself. I don't need anyone. Yet… the idea sounds nice…
Someone there when you cry to kiss away the tears. When you stumble, they're there to pick you up off the ground, dust you off. Someone to confide all your fears, hopes, and dreams into. Someone to protect you when you're weak and defenseless. It sounds all sweet and nice but I know what else goes with relationships. Heartbreak. Lies. Regret.
"Korra?" I snap out of my thoughts, directing my gaze to Bolin.
"Think you're up for more practice with earthbending?" He grins, emerald eyes shining. I stand to my feet, hands on my hips.
"More than ready, show me what you got."
It isn't until a few weeks later I decide it's time to make a move. Mako's standing outside the pro-bending arena, by himself. I watch a moment as the breeze ruffles his hair and coat tail. I slowly approach him, heart beating fast. I gently tap his shoulder, he turns, amber eyes greeting me.
"Korra? What are you still doing here, I thought you would've went back to the island."
"I had something I wanted to ask you first." I say, fighting to keep from breaking eye contact with him. I will be brave. I'm the Avatar I can handle asking someone out… right?
"Yeah? What is it?" He asks, his voice holding a trace of impatience in it.
"I just… wanted to know if you um…" No. Korra. Stop making a fool of yourself. Just ask.
"Wanted to what?"
"Um…" I've never been one for words, I decide. Action is much better. I lean up, pressing a soft kiss to his lips. To my slight surprise, he returns the kiss a few moments before breaking away.
"I was wondering when you were going to ask." He says, smiling softly at me. I feel my cheeks reddening.
"How does tomorrow at the little cafe downtown sound?" He asks.
"Oh that sounds good." I say, careful not to slip over my words. He grins, before kissing my cheek.
"I'll see you then!" He walks by me to go back into the arena. I stand there shocked that this worked out in my favor, before jumping into the air shouting in my sudden excitement. Time for the beginning of something new to me. A relationship.
