Chapter One Preview: A Visit from a Foe
A/N: To be completely honest, I'm not too sure about this story... I'll try my best. It's just that I've had this idea ever since I finished the Kuroshitsuji anime, and I feel as though I won't forget about it until I at least try this. I hope you like it! Remember to rate and review, blah, blah, blah... Also, remember that this is only a short preview of the first chapter. I just want to see people's opinions on my writing style. Thank you!
"Oh, Ciel..." Ciel turned, although the action didn't make much of a difference. Other than the dim light shining from his crimson eyes and the pale glimmering of his cerulean ring, he was completely surrounded by shadowy darkness; an eerie kind of darkness, where black mist rose from the indefinite ground, and dark fog blocked any sign of vision. The soft voice which whispered his name had surprised him, but it wasn't particularly scary.
"Ciel..." The voice cooed once again, seeming to try and beckon the young Earl.
"Who's there?" Ciel called out, to no avail. He wasn't quite sure which direction to speak in, as the voice had seemed to have come from all directions. The whisper was still echoing around him from a few moments ago, the familiar sound of his name fading slowly.
The blue-haired boy was growing more and more agitated. His eyes flashed a hot red for a moment, and he clenched and unclenched his small fists.
"Do I need to repeat myself?" Ciel called out once more, "Who's there?" Ciel turned once again, spinning slowly in place, trying to spot anything that appeared to stand out from the rest of the darkness. He took a moment to gaze in each direction. Soon after he spoke these words, the sound of two boys' laughter echoed throughout the black space.
"Hush, Phantomhive," the slightly deeper, more mature voice spoke in a teasing, playful tone, "No need to be so bristly towards your old friend!" The sweeter voice's laughter continued on for a moment before dying down.
Ciel sighed and closed his eyes, calming his short temper. His eyebrow twitched and he rubbed his temple with his thumb and forefinger. "Please, just show yourself to prevent me from feeling any further frustration."
"Aw, but you're so adorable when you're irritated!" the more mature voice spoke once again. Ciel chose to ignore the comment, despite his slightly reddening face. He could assume that the owner of the older child's voice took authority over the younger boy, as he (a male, Ciel assumed) seemed to be the only one making comments of any relevance.
After a few moments of silence, the voice spoke once again. This time, however, all of the playful teasing had dissipated.
"I have something to speak with you about, Ciel."
"Well, if you think I'm going to have conversation with thin air, then you're horribly mistaken."
"Ah, fine... I'm surprised that you haven't figured me out yet, but you always were a bit dense. I guess our little game must come to an end eventually..."
"Game? Tch. Hardly."
