Patricia broke up with him on the last day of her visit. Maybe she didn't want to make things awkward for them for the rest of her stay in America. Or maybe she didn't want to stick around long enough to see his reaction. But that was the thing that bothered Eddie. He didn't know his reaction. Sad because he just lost the girl that he really couldn't imagine life without? Happy because if it didn't work out in marriage like Eric and his mom it would be hard to live a normal life? Angry because he had no idea why she broke up with him?
All she had said in her cute British accent was that she thought they should move on and get on with their lives. That he was the best boyfriend anyone could ever have but that she just couldn't keep doing this. What was this anyway? Because Eddie was pretty sure it was the best relationship he had ever had.
Even though Eddie was the kind of bad boy that never showed emotion it didn't mean that he didn't feel emotion. And he was feeling emotion alright. He missed Patricia and just really wanted to swim across the Atlantic Ocean and tell her that he didn't want to let her go. He loved her too much. He didn't have the chance to tell her that when she broke up with him.
All he had said was "Um sure Yacker. I guess if that's what you want". Then he had walked away to think. He had no chance to say goodbye before she left. And maybe she wanted it that way.
And then the letter came. Nina had written three whole pages telling him everything, explaining, apologizing and begging.
Two break ups this summer. It was almost too much to bear.
